Top 10 cough tablets

Cough pills are inexpensive

The pharmaceutical market offers a huge amount of cough suppressants. However, any physician will admit that in last years brand new medications not many appeared.

All cough medicines are variations of long-known international names, differing only in packaging, form of release (regular or absorbable tablets, aerosols, syrups) and, of course, price. For the average person, it is not the appearance that is important. The effectiveness of the drug and its cost come to the fore.

Important! Cheap drugs for cough, subject to all the rules of their production, are in no way inferior to more expensive counterparts.

Rules for choosing a cough medicine

To choose inexpensive pills that will help you quickly cope with a cough, you should adhere to the following rules:

  • Antitussive pills that act on the brain centers or reflexively (Codelac, Sinekod) are advisable only for a hacking cough that occurs with sore throat or certain infections (whooping cough). The suppression of the cough reflex contributes to the accumulation of viscous sputum in the small bronchi and lung tissue, which is fraught with serious consequences. Therefore, such antitussive drugs are used only in the absence of sputum and are categorically contraindicated even when a small amount of secretion is released from the bronchi.
  • Mucolytics (Mukaltin) should not be used with a large amount of sputum effluent. They are aimed at thinning the viscous secretion, which improves the process of its elimination from the respiratory tract.
  • Expectorants (Bromhexine, ACC) increase the peristalsis of the bronchial epithelium. Thus, facilitating the excretion of phlegm.
  • All drugs have contraindications and age restrictions to consider when choosing a cough suppressant.

Cough tablets for children

Since different groups of drugs are used in the treatment of coughs in the form of tablets, it is important to consult a doctor before taking them. The pediatrician will examine the baby, determine the cause of the cough and its type, and then prescribe treatment based on age, because a 7-year-old child can be prescribed one cough pill, for younger children the list of cough pills is reduced, and for older children it is expanded. How is a cough treated? Cough medicine

thanks

The site provides background information for information only. Diagnosis and treatment of diseases must be carried out under the supervision of a specialist. All drugs have contraindications. A specialist consultation is required!

The most common symptom of respiratory system diseases is cough Is a forced, abrupt, repetitive exhalation of air. Thanks to coughing, the upper respiratory tract self-cleans from sputum, mucus, microbes, and foreign bodies.

The immediate cause of this phenomenon is irritation and edema of the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx, bronchi, trachea. Cough is a reflex action, in some cases it can be caused voluntarily.

In chemical plants, where people work with toxic, harmful volatile substances, workers are required to wear protective equipment against the penetration of chemicals into the respiratory tract. If you ignore the safety rules and do not wear masks or respirators, then a cough reflex can also occur from mechanical and chemical irritation.

Differential differences

Even coughing heavily, people do not always seek help from a doctor, preferring to treat themselves on their own. Sick people come to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist to give " anything to avoid coughing". Of course, self-selected medications can relieve coughs. But it is better to consult with a therapist after all.

The pharmacist usually asks which cough is being observed - wet or dry ?
The choice of the drug will depend on this. " Wet or dry"- this is the simplest differentiation by the presence of sputum, in addition to this, they also distinguish:
  • Periodic (occurs with bronchitis).
  • Short continuous (pleurisy).
  • Hoarse (inflammation of the vocal cords).
  • Barking (damage to the larynx; hysterical syndrome).
  • Paroxysmal (whooping cough).

Treatment

If a person coughs painfully, dryly, feeling "scratching" in the chest and throat, then it is advisable to take cough medicine which suppress the cough reflex and normalize sputum production. It is recommended to take lollipops and lozenges with sage, preparations Libexin or bronchodilator.

If a person coughs with sputum production, and it is difficult to separate, has a viscous consistency, then it is necessary to use drugs that thin sputum, such as: Fluifort, Lazolvan, Acetylcysteine, Bromhexine. These drugs have a protective and anti-inflammatory effect on the throat mucosa, relieve spasm ( constriction) bronchi.

Fluifort has proven itself well. The drug helps to transfer dry cough to wet. The lysine salt of carbocysteine in the syrup, in contrast to acetylcysteine preparations, not only promotes the liquefaction and separation of sputum, but also prevents it from flowing into the lower respiratory tract. That is why Fluifort helps to restore the structure of the mucous membranes of the respiratory system, reduces the intensity of coughing and makes breathing easier. The action of the syrup begins in the first hour after ingestion and lasts up to 8 hours. Due to its neutral pH, the preparation does not irritate the stomach. Fluifort syrup is prescribed for rhinosinusitis, adenoiditis, otitis media, laryngotracheitis, bronchitis, pneumonia.

In acute respiratory diseases ( ARI), the doctor will prescribe antitussive drugs, and will not carry out antibiotic therapy. And if a patient is diagnosed with bronchitis or pneumonia, then antibiotic treatment will be carried out in the first place, since the suppression of the activity of microbes is a priority therapeutic task. This is why it is important to get tested by a doctor. Taking for a cold serious disease bronchi, the patient will try to stop only one symptom - cough, unaware that his condition is aggravating by ineffective self-medication.

It is necessary to take expectorant and antitussive drugs if dry, hacking, frequent coughing interferes with normal sleep. Drugs that suppress the cough center - Stopussin-Fito, Glaucin, Libeksin, Tusuprex, Sinekod.

Expectorants and phlegm-thinning agents are called mucolytics... These drugs help clear mucus from the lungs and move it out. Commonly used mucolytic drugs: Mukaltin, Bromhexin, Halixol, Mukopront, Mukodin, Fluimucil.

If the cough does not go away for several weeks and is accompanied by a sharp pain in the chest; If bloody or yellow-green sputum appears in the cough, see your local doctor as soon as possible.

Treatment with herbal preparations

Herbal preparations significantly weaken coughing phenomena, have an anti-inflammatory effect, stimulate the formation of phlegm and improve its expectoration, relieve bronchospasm. These include: Gedelix, plantain preparations ( Bronkhin, Stopussin-Fito, Evkabal, Breast collection number 2). Combined drugs are also commonly used: Kofol, Doctor Mom, Kofrem, Suprima-Broncho... These medicines eliminate coughs of any etiology, and relieve inflammatory manifestations in whooping cough, pharyngitis, laryngitis.

Most of these drugs are used to treat both adults and children, since they have no side effects and are composed of natural substances.

Other herbal preparations:

2. Marshmallow preparations. Marshmallow has an enveloping and softening effect on the membranes of the bronchi, relieves irritation and improves the secretion of phlegm. It is used for both dry and wet coughs. Preparations containing marshmallow: Altemix, Breast collection No. 1, Mukaltin, Dry cough medicine, Licorice.

3. Oregano has antimicrobial and expectorant effect, is part of the Breast collection number 1 and Bronkhina.

4. Thyme has an antimicrobial effect, is a part of domestic and foreign drugs - Eucabal, Stopussin-Fito, Pertussin.

Influenza or a cold are manifested not only by coughing, but also by fever, runny nose. For the treatment of these diseases, drugs are used that contain several active ingredients, each of which is aimed at a specific symptom.

These drugs include antipyretic components, antitussive, antiallergic. However, it is worth remembering that this is symptomatic treatment and it is not always justified. For example, when the temperature rises, it is the body's defensive action to suppress the activity of microbes. Therefore, temperature up to 38 degrees is not advised to bring down antipyretic drugs.

Or, in the case when sputum is coughing up, it is not worth suppressing the cough reflex, because the sputum will linger in the body and can cause stagnant processes.
