Pharmacological group

The medication has an antacid effect. Both active substances and in the agent, they cause a quick neutralization of the excess amount gastric juice... The components have a fairly long-lasting effect. By eliminating part of hydrochloric acid the gastric mucosa has a protective effect. Rennie's drug-oriented drug shows its properties within a few minutes (from 3 to 5) after taking the pill, this fact is due to the high level of solubility of the drug units, as well as the high concentration of calcium.

After interaction with hydrochloric acid, calcium and magnesium salts are formed in the stomach, differing in solubility.

The absorption rate of calcium and magnesium is related to the dosage of the drug. Maximum absorption is 10% calcium and 15 to 20% magnesium. A small amount of absorbed magnesium and calcium is excreted through the kidneys. If the patient has impaired renal function, then the content of magnesium and calcium in the blood serum may be higher.

In the intestine, insoluble compounds are formed from salts, which are excreted in the feces.

Heartburn is a common symptom that worries women while carrying a baby. In this case, there is a need for the use of antacids, and main criterion in the choice of the drug - safety for the health of the baby and mother. Analysis of the instructions for using Rennie during pregnancy and lactation, why is it better than other drugs for eliminating heartburn.

Rennie - a remedy for heartburn

Heartburn is a dyspeptic syndrome. It occurs when the sphincter tone is disturbed, which prevents the reflux of gastric juice into the esophagus.

In the early stages of pregnancy, the female body is influenced by progesterone, a hormone that relaxes the smooth muscles of the uterus, and with it the digestive system. Dyspeptic symptoms occur, one of them is a burning sensation in the esophagus.

On the later dates the body adapts, but the stomach is compressed by the growing uterus, which contributes to the onset of the symptom. To eliminate discomfort, antacids are used - drugs that neutralize the acidity of the juice and eliminate dyspepsia (burning, sour belching, constipation, epigastric pain).

Menthol, Orange, or Mint Flavored Chewable Tablets include:

  • active ingredients - calcium and magnesium carbonates;
  • flavoring additives.

The therapeutic effect of the tablets:

  1. Normalization of acid secretion and neutralization of its excess.
  2. Protection of the mucous membranes of the stomach and esophagus from the aggressive action of the components of digestive juices - enzymes, acids, bile acids.
  3. Elimination of symptoms of dyspepsia.
  4. Activation of regeneration processes in mucous membranes.
  5. Mild laxative effect.

Medicinal substances act locally, in digestive organs, without being absorbed into the blood, i.e., without exerting a systemic effect. The burning sensation disappears 5 minutes after taking the pill.

Rennie for pregnant women is used as a symptomatic remedy to eliminate dyspeptic conditions (acidic eructation, heartburn, epigastric pain) that arise as an independent symptom.

The reasons for the appearance of an uncomfortable state can be:

  • inaccuracies in nutrition;
  • heartburn of pregnant women;
  • the use of strong tea, nicotine, coffee, some medicines that irritate the gastric mucosa (hormones, analgesics).

Similar symptoms accompany gastroenterological pathologies:

  • gastritis;
  • reflux esophagitis disease;
  • ulcerative erosive lesions of the membranes.

Attention! Heartburn, sharp pain in the abdomen, vomiting and diarrhea with worsening condition indicate serious illness, poisoning or intestinal infection... In this case, a doctor's consultation is necessary.

How to take for pregnant women

Heartburn during pregnancy is a common and unpleasant symptom associated with the action of progesterone and the pressure of the enlarged uterus on the stomach. Its manifestations are intensified when bending forward, in a horizontal position. Rennie is an effective antacid that fights heartburn and is approved for pregnant women.

How to use:

  • Rennie Express granules. The contents of one sachet should be simply poured onto the tongue without drinking water. With a high sensitivity to inhalation, it is allowed to place the drug under the tongue. Let's admit taking 3-5 sachets a day, after meals. The maximum course of drug use is 14 days.
  • Rennie in pills. For heartburn (burning behind the breastbone), you need to chew 1 or 2 tablets of the drug (you can just keep them in your mouth until they are completely dissolved). If necessary, it is recommended to repeat the reception no earlier than 2 hours later. The maximum number of tablets per day is 11.

The drug is safe during pregnancy due to its simple composition: magnesium carbonate together with calcium carbonate. These substances are natural and essential for the body.

When the drug is contraindicated

There are a number of contraindications and restrictions to the use of Rennie:

  • severe renal failure;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • salt balance disorders (hypophosphatemia, hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis);
  • age up to 12 years (restrictions).

Application for breastfeeding

V lactation period women are also contraindicated in a large number medications... This is due to the fact that through milk they can enter the child's body and cause adverse reactions in him.

Rennie, along with alginates, successfully fights the manifestations of heartburn in women who feed their baby with breast milk. It has been proven that if the drug is used in the recommended therapeutic doses, then it poses no danger to either the fetus or the baby.

If you experience an unpleasant burning sensation behind the breastbone and belching, you should thoroughly chew 2 or 1 Rennie's tablet without drinking it with water. If desired, the drug can simply be held in the mouth until it is completely dissolved. It is allowed to take no more than 11 tablets per day.

The substances included in the drug neutralize high level acids, and this stops the manifestations of heartburn. In addition, the agent protects the gastric mucosa from the aggressive effects of HCl. The effect usually occurs 4-5 minutes after taking the drug.

Side effects

An allergic reaction to the components of the tablets is not excluded.

Prolonged excess of dosages can provoke pathological conditions caused by hypermagnesemia or hypercalcemia.

Note! If taking the medicine is accompanied by a deterioration in well-being, a doctor's consultation is required.

What other drugs are allowed for pregnant women

List of Rennie's substitutes that are allowed when feeding and carrying a child:

  • Gaviscon Forte;
  • Gastal;
  • Phosphalugel;
  • Rutacid;
  • Almagel;
  • Maalox.

Gaviscon while breastfeeding

After childbirth, women often complain of heartburn, indigestion, belching associated with the onset or exacerbation of a chronic form of gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux. For mothers who are breastfeeding a baby, treatment presents certain difficulties, since the list of drugs approved for use during lactation is limited.

Antacids are the first choice. They do not affect the course of the disease and do not eliminate its causes, but they effectively and quickly help get rid of unpleasant symptoms and improve the condition. One of them is the drug Gaviscon, containing alginate and sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate. It comes in the form of a suspension and chewable tablets.

Gaviscon is approved for use in women during pregnancy and lactation. Its safety for the fetus and newborn babies has been proven in clinical trials. The drug has only a local effect and is not absorbed into the systemic circulation. After taking active ingredients medications react quickly with acidic gastric juices. They cover the walls of the stomach with a protective gel layer that prevents the occurrence of reflux, as well as prevents irritation of the esophagus, and have a soothing effect if reflux does occur.

When breastfeeding, Gaviscon can be taken once (10 ml of suspension) or in a therapeutic mode (no more than 40 ml per day, divided into 4 doses). The drug should be taken after meals before bedtime.

  1. Talk to your doctor in advance about which remedies to take if you have heartburn.
  2. When buying a medicine on your own, without a medical prescription, check if the drug can be taken during pregnancy or HB.
  3. Do not rush to go to bed after eating - it is recommended to keep vertical position to prevent stomach contents from being back up into the esophagus.
  4. You can not use soda to eliminate the burning sensation, which will subsequently cause dyspepsia, re-emission of hydrochloric acid and heartburn.

Conclusion

To help pregnant women suffering from heartburn are drugs with different chemical composition, pharmacological action and release form. Rennie is number one in the charts for heartburn during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Reasons for popular love:

  • affordable price;
  • a variety of flavors that you can choose at your discretion;
  • the presence of large and small packages (from 12 to 48 tablets);
  • wide distribution and free access to purchase;
  • safety and good portability;
  • the ability to take with you.

Among Rennie's analogues, there are worthy competitors in tablets and suspensions, approved for expectant mothers. It is better to decide what is right in a particular case with a doctor. And most importantly, there is no need to panic. Heartburn during pregnancy is a physiological phenomenon that will disappear after childbirth.

The antacid drug Rennie settled on the domestic pharmacological market many years ago and since then has been at the forefront of medicines that treat heartburn. Of particular value is the medicine for pregnant women, who are often tormented by a strong burning sensation in the chest area: Rennie's active ingredients do not pose a danger to mother and child. Read in the article about the features of the use of Rhenia during pregnancy.

Statistics claim that three out of four women in a position have a complete understanding of what heartburn is, since they have experienced all the "delights" of this condition on their own esophagus. Acid dyspepsia can ruin a woman's life at any stage of pregnancy. Intense burning, an unpleasant aftertaste in the mouth, excruciating pain behind the breastbone and "under the spoon" are the most striking signs of cleared heartburn.

The mechanism of heartburn during pregnancy

After successful conception v female body a lot is changing, and a major restructuring is ahead of him hormonal system... These metamorphoses do not always have a positive effect on the condition of the pregnant woman. Thus, a large amount of the "pregnant" hormone progesterone significantly relaxes the muscles of the uterus, as well as the fibers of the muscle ring, which serves as a barrier preventing the return of food and hydrochloric acid from the gastric cavity into the esophagus. Such malfunctions of the sphincter cause heartburn. Being in a delicate position, even those women who have never had it before face this painful phenomenon.

There is a general consensus about the safety of this pathological condition for a pregnant woman and a fetus. However, the indirect complications of heartburn still need to be considered. First, too frequent attacks in the literal sense of the word, they exhaust the expectant mother - she is always annoyed and depressed. Negative emotions may well affect the development of the baby psychologically and physically. Secondly, regular bouts of heartburn can exacerbate diseases that a woman already has. gastrointestinal tract, which is also not the best way to affect the fetus.

Obviously, even with episodic manifestations of acid dyspepsia, the expectant mother needs to inform her attending physician about this. The specialist will select the antacid preparation most suitable for the delicate condition of the patient. Medical practice shows that it is safest to drink Rennie during pregnancy.

What a mom-to-be needs to know about Rennie

Before starting to take this or that drug, the expectant mother should ask what this remedy is. The doctor, of course, needs to be trusted, but no one has canceled the principles of responsible self-medication while expecting a child.

Composition and form of the preparation

Rennie's manufacturer is a large pharmaceutical company Bayer Sante Familiale in France. The drug is based on a combination of active substances such as calcium carbonate (680 mg in one tablet) and magnesium carbonate (80 mg in one tablet). These are completely safe salts for a pregnant woman. The use of the medicine is made more pleasant by its original form of release. Official medicine Russian Federation 3 types of medicinal product are approved:

  1. Diabetic chewable tablets (sugar free) with mint flavor.
  2. Sweet menthol tablets to chew.
  3. Sweet, orange-flavored chewable tablets.

What diseases is Rennie indicated for?

Can Rennie be pregnant? Let's find out what the drug manufacturers have to say about this. The main indications for the use of this drug are:

  • discomfort (belching, acid dyspepsia, episodic pain in the stomach) caused by increased acidity of gastric juice or reflux esophagitis;
  • a feeling of fullness or heaviness in the epigastric region, which is very uncomfortable;
  • increased gas production in the intestines;
  • dyspepsia as a result of an unbalanced diet, prolonged drug treatment and addictions;
  • acid dyspepsia in pregnant women.

As you can see official instruction the drug allows the use of Rennie during pregnancy. Let's make an amendment - the drug should not be taken in the first trimester. At 12-16 weeks of gestation, the fetus, which is actively forming, is still very weak, and any, even minor, drug substance can have a significant effect on its development. What this influence will be, in some cases it is rather difficult to predict. Therefore, for reinsurance, most drugs are prescribed from the second trimester of pregnancy.

By the way, the drug also has contraindications and this must be taken into account when assigning Rennie to a future mother. The medicine is not recommended for the following diseases:

  • hypercalcemia;
  • hypermagnesemia;
  • chronic renal failure;
  • allergy to one or more components in the composition of the drug.

How Rennie works during pregnancy for heartburn

The high efficiency of the drug is due to the specificity of its action. Food that enters the stomach is broken down by gastric juice, the main active ingredient of which is hydrochloric acid. Heartburn occurs when stomach acid and food soaked in hydrochloric acid travel up the esophagus and "eat away" it.

Rennie effectively neutralizes aggressive hydrochloric acid. Salts in its composition enter into chemical reaction with this substance, as a result of which the gastric juice loses its causticity and decomposes into elements that are safe for the body in the form of water, carbon dioxide and soluble chlorides.

Perceptible relief occurs within 3 - 5 minutes after taking the pill.

The doctors' comments about Rennie during pregnancy are extremely positive. Here are, in their opinion, the main advantages of this drug:

  • the balanced composition of Rhenia does not cause constipation, which often torment expectant mothers due to high concentration blood progesterone;
  • there is no aluminum in Rennie. This component slows down the work of the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, the features of its effect on the fetus have not been thoroughly studied;
  • the product does not contain sodium salts. The substance contributes to an increase in blood pressure, and this, as you understand, is of no use to the expectant mother.

Rennie's use during pregnancy

The drug should be taken at the first sign of impending heartburn. You can chew 2 tablets right away if the discomfort is too strong. To make the drug work faster, the tablets are chewed very thoroughly, and the remaining pieces dissolve until they are completely dissolved. Rennie's maximum daily dose is 11 tablets. You can take them at intervals of 2 hours.

No precedent cases of drug overdose have been registered, although they, of course, can be. For example, with prolonged use of Rennie by a person with diseases of the urinary system, he may develop the following deviations:

  • hypermagnesemia (excessive amounts of magnesium in the blood);
  • hypercalcemia (high blood calcium levels);
  • alkalosis (a condition in which the neutral blood environment becomes alkaline).

If there is an excess of magnesium in the body, this will certainly manifest itself as general weakness, low blood pressure breathing difficulties. With an excessive amount of calcium in the patient's blood, constipation, abdominal pain and nausea are tormenting.

In a word, if upon reception medicinal product Rennie's expectant mother notes the appearance of any unusual symptoms, this should be immediately reported to the attending physician.

Rennie's interaction with other drugs

Rennie, like any antacid agent, reduces acidity, therefore, in a certain way, it affects the absorption of components of other drugs in the body, and this feature of the tablets must be taken into account.

So, Rennie becomes an obstacle to the successful absorption of other drugs. If the expectant mother is forced to take not only pills for heartburn, but also other drugs, the interval between taking different drugs should be at least 2 hours.

It is absolutely known that due to the application, Rennie is not completely absorbed antibacterial drugs, cardiac glycosides, as well as preparations containing iron, phosphates and fluorides. As you know, pregnancy in many women is accompanied by anemia, for the treatment of which iron-containing drugs are prescribed. If it is incorrect to combine them with the use of Rennie's pills, the benefits of eliminating anemia will be incomplete, so the expectant mother should discuss the treatment regimen with the doctor.

Could there be a side effect after taking Rennie?

The instruction for the drug assures that the drug is usually well tolerated without causing any side effects... But possible unforeseen deviations still cannot be ignored:

  1. If a pregnant patient has an intolerance to any component in Rennie's composition, an allergic reaction may develop.
  2. When rhenium carbonates neutralize hydrochloric acid, carbon dioxide is released in the stomach. When dissolved in water, this substance turns into carbonic acid, which in turn can increase the acidity in the stomach again. This phenomenon is called "acid rebound". This is related to the ban on taking Rennie's tablets at night: in the absence of food, the acid will irritate the gastric mucosa.

You do not need a prescription to purchase the medicine, however, the pregnant woman must mandatory consult your obstetrician / gynecologist about taking these pills. Regularly disturbing heartburn in some cases is a symptom of more serious pathologies associated with the digestive system.

How to beat heartburn without pills

If you, being in an "interesting" position, fundamentally do not want to treat heartburn with medication, we offer you several useful tips how to cope with acid dyspepsia without "chemistry". These recommendations will also come in handy for expectant mothers with early date pregnancy, when it is worth refraining from taking any medications at all.

  1. Refuse to take antispasmodic drugs - they deprive the esophageal sphincter of the necessary tone, thereby provoking the development of heartburn. Peppermint has the same relaxing sedative effect.
  2. Extra pounds, which appeared already during pregnancy, contribute to the appearance of acid dyspepsia.
  3. It is better to satisfy the expectant mother's hunger with fractional meals: you need to sit at the table 5-6 times a day every 2-2.5 hours, put very little food on the plate.
  4. Pieces of food should be chewed slowly and very vigorously.
  5. The diet of a pregnant woman should contain dishes that are responsible for a stable alkaline reaction in the stomach. These are dairy products, steamed omelets, boiled dietary meat, steam fish, yesterday's white bread, vegetable and butter.
  6. Vegetables and dishes from them must be boiled or wiped on a fine grater. Fruits are good baked for the expectant mother. To prevent constipation, you should accustom yourself to boiled beets and steamed prunes. Constipation is a direct prerequisite for the development of heartburn.
  7. The main culprits for the appearance of acid dyspepsia are considered to be the products loved by many, including fried foods, smoked meats, hot sauces and spices, fruit juices with "sourness", white cabbage (the queen of coarse fiber), mushrooms, chocolate. Nuts during pregnancy certainly provide a lot of benefits, but in large quantities are guaranteed to introduce you to heartburn.
  8. Smoking and alcohol, which are also factors provoking acid dyspepsia, are categorically contraindicated during the waiting period for the baby!
  9. The dinner of the expectant mother should be light (no meat). A woman should get up from the table 3 - 4 hours before going to bed.
  10. A pregnant woman should not go to bed right away if she has just eaten - in this case, the food will linger longer in the stomach. Better to sit down or walk for 15 - 20 minutes.
  11. If you have to deal with heartburn every now and then, remember which postures and exercises contribute to its development:
  • low forward inclinations of the body;
  • tension of the abdominal muscles;
  • slouch;
  • improper posture when writing and reading.

There are times when heartburn does not leave a pregnant woman even after taking such effective pills as Rennie, and all the doctor's recommendations are carefully followed future mother do not bring welcome relief. In this case, the woman has no choice but to be patient and wait for the birth of her baby. As a rule, after childbirth, the attacks of heartburn diminish or disappear altogether. Be healthy!

Among the many antacids, Rennie's drug compares favorably. If only because it does not contain aluminum and does not provoke the development of constipation, which is especially important during pregnancy. But these are not all of Rennie's advantages.

Good antacid

Antacids are drugs that can neutralize excessive acidity of gastric juice. This is exactly how Rennie works.

Rennie is calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. Getting into the stomach and interacting with gastric juice, Rennie decomposes into calcium and magnesium salts. Some of them are excreted by the kidneys, while the rest enter the intestines, where they are converted into insoluble compounds and are excreted along with the feces.

Rennie acts quickly enough due to good solubility: excess gastric acid hydrochloric acid is neutralized immediately after Rennie enters the stomach, so that after 3-5 minutes you will feel relief.

So, Rennie can be used for other conditions associated with increased production of gastric juice: with, a feeling of heaviness in the epigastrium, stomach overflow, flatulence, dyspepsia. In this case, the drug does not cure the disease, but eliminates unpleasant symptoms its manifestations.

Can Rennie get heartburn during pregnancy?

Specific research on Rennie's effects on pregnant women and intrauterine development the fetus was not carried out. Therefore, sometimes you can find the wording that Rennie can be prescribed to pregnant women only if the benefit outweighs the risk. But practice shows that Rennie does not have negative impact neither on the fetus, nor on the pregnancy itself. But the positive effect of the drug is obvious. In addition, it is known that Rennie does not enter the mother's blood, and therefore the fetus, too, so he is absolutely safe during the gestation period, doctors are sure.

Doctors say that heartburn cannot be tolerated. Pregnant women complain that it is simply impossible to do this. Of course, the most correct way may seem to be the way to deal with heartburn during pregnancy with folk remedies, like a crust of bread and others. But not everyone can find something that helps in an individual case (the same milk extinguishes acidity not in every pregnant woman), and it is not always possible to resort to such means: in the subway or at a meeting, you cannot indulge in sunflower seeds. Therefore, taking a pill may be the only way out in a situation. And Rennie fits very well for that. Moreover, it does not need to be washed down.

The only thing that should be paid attention to: before 1 month of pregnancy, you still cannot resort to these pills. I would say that the fact that Rennie is allowed to children only from 12 years old is somewhat alarming. In any case, be careful about allergic reactions (Quincke's edema, rash, anaphylactic reactions are very rare). After the first dose, take care of yourself.

How to take Rennie during pregnancy?

Rennie is very convenient to take: just suck 1-2 tablets in the mouth. If the need arises, you can repeat the pills after two hours. In total, no more than 16 pieces can be taken during the day. Pharmacists assure that the drug is quite safe if it is used from time to time and the dosage is not increased. In this light, the comments of expectant mothers like “I just drank it all the pregnancy” are a little alarming.

If you are taking iron supplements, do not combine them with Rennie: these tablets reduce their absorption.

And before turning to Rennie for help, nevertheless consult your doctor: Rennie also has some contraindications for use, for example, renal dysfunctions.

  2. In cases of the use of a large amount of the medicine for heartburn "Rennie", a reflex increase in the production of gastric juice is possible within a few hours after ingestion. This is the so-called rebound symptom, which is characteristic of all antacids.
  3. There is a deterioration in the condition when using "Rennie" in patients with renal insufficiency. In the analyzes, an increase in magnesium and calcium will be noted.

Interaction "Rennie" with other medicinal substances

The drug can affect the absorption and action of some often and long-term used substances, so carefully read the annotation before use.

  1. Rennie enhances the effect of aspirin, Levodopa and nalidixic acid (Nevigramon, Negram).
  2. Atropine, scopolamine and "Diphenhydramine" can prolong the effect of "Rennie" by slowing down the evacuation of food from the stomach.

When used with iron preparations, indomethacin, barbiturates, H2-histamine blockers, beta-blockers, their absorption from the gastrointestinal tract decreases. Therefore, with their simultaneous appointment, it is recommended to apply "Rennie" one hour or one hour after their appointment.

"Rennie" for heartburn during pregnancy and breastfeeding

This is one of the few medicines recommended by doctors for use in pregnancy. However, it should be used with caution and only under medical supervision. However, a single administration of the drug should not lead to unwanted side effects.

During breastfeeding "Rennie" is used with caution, and only according to the strict indications of a doctor. This is due to the fact that "Rennie" affects the character of the baby's stool.

If Rennie Doesn't Help

If prolonged use of "Rennie" did not lead to the desired result, you must inform your doctor!

Since this suggests that the heartburn symptom signals more serious illness digestive organs than it seemed at first glance.

Instructions for use Rennie for heartburn

Rennie is the world's most sought after heartburn medication. It was developed in the first half of the 20th century, but it has not lost its relevance even now. The combined composition of this medication allows you to quickly and effectively neutralize the aggressive action of hydrochloric acid, relieve all symptoms of heartburn and protect the digestive tract.

Composition of the preparation

Antacids are a broad group of medicines that are used to reduce gastric acidity. Their main component is a combination of calcium, magnesium and aluminum compounds. The entire group is divided into two large branches: absorbable and non-absorbable antacids.

Rennie's Heartburn Pill is an absorbable antacid. They acquired this name for the ability of their components or products obtained in the stomach when interacting with hydrochloric acid to independently dissolve in the blood.

The preparation contains two main substances, which by their nature are chemical compounds:

  • Calcium carbonate is a calcium salt of carbonic acid that has a quick (3-5 minutes) neutralizing effect on hydrochloric acid.
  • Magnesium hydroxycarbonate is a magnesium salt of carbonic acid, characterized by a longer but prolonged decrease in acidity in the stomach.

Indications for use

Rennie is the most well-known drug used in most cases. It is effective for heartburn caused by:

  • after overeating;
  • after eating fatty or spicy foods;
  • after drinking large amounts of coffee or other foods and drinks containing caffeine;
  • due to stressful situation;
  • in a pregnant woman;
  • after smoking or drinking alcohol;
  • from taking other medicines.

The indications for the use of these tablets are various symptoms resulting from an increase in gastric acidity and recurrence of reflux esophagitis:

  • heartburn;
  • sour belching;
  • episodic stomach pain;
  • feeling of heaviness in the stomach;
  • alimentary dyspepsia;
  • dyspepsia of pregnant women.

They can also be used to relieve the symptoms of heartburn in gastroesophageal reflux disease, but the treatment of its relapses should be comprehensive, including both antacids and inhibitors. proton pump, prokinetic agents.

Taking Rennie is ineffective for heartburn that develops against the background of peptic ulcer digestive tract, chronic gastritis, cholecystitis. In these cases, pathogenetic therapy of the disease is necessary.

Dosage regimen and special instructions

Rennie comes in pill form that must be chewed rather than swallowed. A significant advantage of the drug is the absence of a course intake, since it needs to be taken only when heartburn or its accompanying symptoms appear. The number of tablets at a time is 1-2 pieces.

If after a short period of time the problem repeats, then after 2 hours they can be taken again. It is allowed to use no more than 11 pieces per day.

When using this medicinal product, you should consider:

  • As a result of the intake, the acidity of the gastric juice decreases, which can affect the absorption of other drugs. Therefore, other drugs should be taken 1–2 hours before taking it or 1–2 hours after it.
  • Antacid reduces the absorption of certain antibiotics, cardiac glycosides, thyroxine preparations, iron, phosphates, fluorides.
  • In the case of the simultaneous administration of diuretics that do not remove calcium, it is necessary to control the level of this electrolyte in the blood.
  • Overdose signs may include nausea, vomiting, muscle weakness. When they appear, the medication must be canceled, and then consult a doctor.
  • Rennie's use may increase the risk of kidney stones.

Safe or not?

Chewable tablets are available as a medicine. They have different tastes, differ in the number of pieces in the package and in the sugar content. Chewable tablet options:

  • Orange, with a pleasant citrus scent and sweetish taste, is available in 12, 24 and 48 pieces. Contains sucrose.
  • Menthol - with the smell and taste of menthol, there are 12 and 24 pieces per pack. Like the previous version, it contains sucrose.
  • Mint has, respectively, the smell and taste of mint. It does not contain sugar, and as a result can be used by patients with diabetes mellitus and other people with sugar control. Quantity per package - 12, 24, 48.
It should be noted that all three forms can be used during pregnancy and lactation, since in the recommended doses the drug does not have a negative effect on the fetus and child.

But, if you carefully read into the composition of the tablets, you can detect the presence of modified corn starch. Thus, the question of safety during pregnancy and lactation for every parent who cares about the health of their children remains open.

Rennie's innovative granule formulation is a food supplement. It comes in the form of sachets containing granules. This innovation from the manufacturer Bayer, according to the instructions, dissolves directly on the tongue in 30 seconds, contributing to the rapid relief of heartburn. Unlike chewable tablets, the use of granules is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in primary hyperparathyroidism, excess vitamin D and other contraindications indicated in the tablets.

Side effects and contraindications

Side effects that have been reported with this drug are very rare. They can manifest allergic reaction as various rashes, angioedema, anaphylaxis.

Despite the rare negative phenomena and a fairly high safety of the drug, there are a number of contraindications. These include:

  • Severe renal failure, in which the excretory function is severely impaired.
  • Hypercalcemia, that is, a condition in which the amount of calcium in the blood exceeds the established norm. It can occur with an increase in bone leaching or a decrease in calcium absorption by bone tissue, increased absorption of it in the intestine, as well as with renal failure. Calcium tablets should not be taken in this case.
  • Hypophosphatemia, that is, a condition in which the amount of phosphate in the blood is below the established norm. Its development is possible with the abuse of antacids, because aluminum and magnesium have the ability to bind phosphoric acid salts, preventing them from entering the bloodstream.
  • Nephrocalcinosis, which is the deposition of calcium salts in the kidneys.
  • Age up to 12 years.

Deficiency of enzymes involved in the breakdown of sucrose, maltose, fructose, impaired absorption of glucose and galactose (malabsorption). In the case of the presence of one of the listed pathologies, the use of Rennie is contraindicated, since sugars are included in its composition as excipients... Individual drug intolerance.

Sometimes, before taking a drug that only relieves symptoms, you need to think about whether it will delay the resolution of a serious problem. It should be borne in mind that early diagnosis illness is the key to its successful treatment.

After the interaction of Rennie's drug with stomach juice, magnesium and calcium salts are formed. The degree of absorption of these salts depends on the dose of the drug used. The maximum absorption rate is up to 20% magnesium and up to 10% calcium. A small amount of absorbed calcium and magnesium ions are excreted by the kidneys. In the intestine, insoluble substances are formed from the soluble derivatives of the drug, which are excreted in the feces.

Indications for use

Symptoms caused by increased acidity of stomach juice and reflux esophagitis (including those caused by medication, inadequate diet, coffee, alcohol or nicotine abuse):

  • recurrent epigastric pain;
  • feeling of heaviness or fullness in the stomach area;
  • heartburn;
  • dyspepsia;
  • sour belching;

Overdose

Long-term use of the drug in large doses in patients with kidney damage can lead to the development of alkalosis, hypermagnesemia, hypercalcemia, which are manifested by vomiting, nausea and muscle weakness. In such cases, you should stop taking the drug and seek help from your doctor.

Interaction

A decrease in the acidity of gastric juice due to the intake of antacids leads to a decrease in the degree and rate of absorption of other drugs used simultaneously. So pharmaceuticals must be taken an hour and a half before or after taking Rennie.

When used together, antacids reduce the absorption of fluoroquinolones, tetracycline antibiotics, levothyroxine, cardiac glycosides, phosphates, iron preparations, fluorides.

When used simultaneously with thiazide diuretics, it is recommended to regularly monitor the content of calcium ions in the blood.
