  • Date: 02.01.2021

There is no man in the world who would not dream of becoming a musketeer in childhood. Even modern children, despite the fashionable images of Batman and Spiderman, want to reincarnate as a brave French warrior-aristocrat from the century before last. New Year is a holiday when the most secret dreams come true. Despite the visual complexity, it is quite easy to make a spectacular children's New Year's musketeer costume with your own hands. Even a novice seamstress for a couple of free evenings will sew a wide cape, make an elegant collar and cuffs for a musketeer's carnival costume. And the rest of the attributes that make up the image of the bold D "Artanyan, to pick up and arrange will not be difficult.

How to sew a musketeer suit?

It is not at all necessary to sew an elegant shirt. You can take a plain shirt (white or pastel). Trousers for a suit should be chosen ordinary, dark. But we will make a wide cape with a collar trimmed with openwork lace ourselves.

You will need:

  • white thin fabric about 20 cm wide;
  • lace white braid;
  • silver or golden edging (thin ribbon);
  • plain fabric in red, cherry, blue or light blue (preferably satin or velvet);
  • white narrow tape;
  • zipper lock to match the fabric.

Pattern of New Year's Musketeer Costume

  1. The pattern of a cloak for a musketeer suit is easy to do with your own hands. To build it, we take two measurements from the child: shoulder width and length from shoulder to mid-thigh. Cut out 2 rectangles. The width of the first rectangle is the width of the shoulders, the length of the piece is the length from hip to shoulder multiplied by 2. The second rectangular piece is the sleeves. The length and width are 5 cm smaller than the corresponding sides of the first rectangle. We divide the second part exactly in half.
  2. Fold the base of the cape in half, align it along the fold, carefully cut the neckline. We make it not too deep so that it fits well under the shirt collar.
  3. Overlap and sew on the top of the sleeve. From a satin ribbon we sew on crosses: larger on the chest and back, a little smaller on the sleeves. You can not sew crosses on the sleeves.
  4. Let's start sewing the collar. To do this, we cut out a rectangle so that the collar is slightly elongated. We sew, and then we sew 3 sides of the collar on a sewing machine, turn it out and iron. Smooth the edges of the unstitched side of the collar inward and sew. Sew lace-lace along the perimeter (except for the part where the collar will be attached to the neckline). Sew the collar to the cape.

Children's carnival costume of a musketeer will be unfinished without important attributes - a hat, a sword and boots. The hat can be purchased at the store, or you can convert your mother's out-of-fashion brimmed hat by adding a brooch, ribbon, and feathers (you can make them out of crumpled paper) to the crown and warping the brims by bending them slightly. We will make the boots from children's boots, fastening wide lapels of fabric to match the boots along the upper edge. You can buy a sword and decorate the handle with rhinestones or make yourself from a modular ball. It would be wise not to use even a toy sword with a sharp point for safety reasons, because in the hustle and bustle or simply through negligence, a child can injure himself or injure surrounding children.

This is a cloak. Light and shiny fabrics of blue-blue shades, for example, satin or lining silk, are suitable for its production. The front and back are large rectangles sewn at the shoulders. They should be cut out according to the size of the shoulders, the back should be slightly longer than the front, and the corners of the hem of the resulting cape should be rounded. Two more rectangles are the sleeves. They do not need to be sewn along, just one of the short sides to the shoulders of the cloak is enough. The length of the sleeve should be such that it reaches the wrist.

Sections can be trimmed with a bias tape to match the fabric, or vice versa - with a standout silver or gold border. The crosses on the front and back are cut out of a white opaque fabric and glued with a hot iron on a double-sided doublerin. At the same time, the shape of the tips of the cross should be similar to lilies - a sign of royal power in France at that time.

The second recognizable detail of the costume is, of course, the hat. If the house has a wide-brimmed felt headdress, it is enough to attach a large buckle and a feather to it (they are sold in handicraft and decor stores), otherwise you will have to glue the Whatman hat and paint it black. It is good to use acrylic or paint in a spray can for this - so the color will be even and shiny. On the sides of the brim, the hat must be pulled to the crown and secured with glue or threads.

Feathers can be cut from white Whatman paper (the edges are cut into small fringes), or you can simply wind bright tinsel onto the wire.

Beauty is in the details

The musketeer's carnival costume is complemented by little details. You need to wear it under the cloak, and it is better to sew a wide round collar with lace to it. It is spread over the cloak. Regular cuffs should also be disguised as wide and lace.

When decorating an outfit, you can not skimp on details: the Musketeers were famous dandies.

You will also need black trousers, you can sew them specially from velvet and tuck in. You can also make them from faux leather or suede and wear directly over your regular shoes. A simpler version of the bottom of the suit is wide breeches, similar to short harem pants, white tights and black shoes with a wide buckle or bow.

Since the Musketeers were military men, a weapon would fit the suit, for example, a sword from a children's kit, which was painted silver. You can take a toy, which gave the name to this branch of the army.

Although a sword or musket decorates the costume, it interferes with having fun at the New Year's ball. Therefore, you can wear them only for the dress contest, and take them off during the dance.

It is difficult to find copies of these antique guns on sale, but they can be glued from cardboard if desired. The main feature of a musket is a very long barrel.

The Musketeers are brave and courageous characters who are always ready to help those in need. In their arsenal there is a saber, the musketeers move on horseback. In general, this is a rather interesting and independent image.

What the suit looks like

If you decide to make a carnival musketeer costume for a boy with your own hands, you should know what he is. Here is a list of the parts that the suit should consist of:

  • top and bottom clothing;
  • footwear;
  • headdress;
  • weapon.

One of the options for the costume, you can see in the next photo.

clothing

The Musketeers dressed in rather interesting clothes, which consisted of pants, a shirt and a cape. If you are determined to sew a New Year's one with your own hands for a boy, then it is worth considering some features. This applies to a cape, which is an elongated sleeveless jacket, and in some cases a cape.

If in the child's wardrobe there are trousers or pants of a classic cut, then you can use them. Skinny trousers that look like leggings will look good. It is preferable to choose dark colors, it can be shades of black, brown or gray. But if you are determined to sew a musketeer suit for a boy with your own hands, then instead of classic trousers, you can choose wide breeches. They look especially impressive when worn on white tights made of velor or velvet.

Outerwear requires a white shirt or golf shoes. It is also not necessary to sew this piece of clothing yourself, if there is something similar in the wardrobe. A cape must be worn over the shirt, which may look like an elongated sleeveless jacket or a wide jacket with cut sleeves. Satin or silk works best for this detail. But the colors are not too diverse, they are blue and red, with elements of gold or silver. It will not be difficult to sew a musketeer suit for a boy with your own hands. A pattern of several options is shown in the following figure.

If desired, you can combine several colors when sewing the cape. You can also depict a coat of arms or a cross on the chest of a suit as decoration. With paint or patch.

Also, the cape can be supplemented with a light strip of lace around the neckline. Or a small collar, which must be sewn from white fabric. As you can see on the sewing patterns, buttons and braid are used for decoration. As you already understood, there are no special boundaries if you sew a musketeer costume for a boy with your own hands.

Footwear

Mostly choose high boots for the musketeer suit. They can be black, brown and even red. We will not be able to sew shoes, so we will have to purchase them specially. Unless, of course, there are no suitable boots among the available children's shoes.

When we talked about the choice of trousers, we noted that you can sew wide breeches, which are fixed on the bottom of the leg with an elastic band. So, if you chose this option, then you can do without boots. Breeches are worn over white tights, and shoes or shoes are chosen from shoes. An example of this option can be seen in the following photo.

Ordinary classic shoes in this version can be decorated. For this, gold braid, buckles and other accessories are suitable.

Headdress

How can you imagine a musketeer without a hat? No way, so be sure to focus on this when you sew a musketeer costume for a boy with your own hands. The photo below is just showing the chic musketeer hat.

As you can see, this is a classic hat with wide rims and one feature. This feature is a feather, so we recommend choosing this option. Ready-made hats are usually available from the store, or maybe you have old adult hats. You can use whatever you find, the main thing is to add a feather. Ostrich, goose and swan feathers are best suited for this option. Fix the feather to the side of the hat with silicone hot glue or sew on with thread.

Another option for decorating a hat is to depict a pattern of a coat of arms or a cross on it. This can be done in the form of a patch, which is cut from a dense material of a contrasting color. It is best to fix the finished patch with a thread and a needle.

Weapon

Well, here we come to the completion of the image, the musketeer costume has already been sewn with our own hands for the boy, it remains to add realism to the image. Each musketeer had a saber or sword in his arsenal. They carried this weapon in a belt so that you could quickly get it if necessary. So our, albeit childish, image must be supplemented with weapons.

Doing what we need with our own hands will not work. After all, swords made of cardboard or foam will be inappropriate here. Therefore, there remains one option - to purchase ready-made weapons.

Now there is a large selection of aluminum swords and sabers, which are made especially for children. They are completely safe because they have blunt ends and are lightweight.

Addition

If you sewed a musketeer costume for a boy with your own hands, and now you want to make it special, then we will now show you several options.

Almost everyone watched the film adaptation of the film about the Musketeers, and remember that the main characters had a mustache and a beard. You can draw them with a black cosmetic pencil for a child. The result is a very funny and familiar character to everyone.

If they sewed a New Year's musketeer's costume with their own hands for a boy, then it can be decorated with tinsel, which is used to sew the edges of the hat and capes.

Any mother before the New Year thinks about how to dress a child for a matinee or a fancy dress New Year's Eve. Often in the pre-New Year's bustle, you have to buy or rent an expensive suit. However, a New Year's costume can be sewn with your own hands in just one or two evenings.

We offer the boy a Musketeer costume. The basis of a suit can be any plain shirt or blouse, as well as black. It is very good if the trousers are at the bottom with an elastic band, if not, then you can turn them up, hem and insert an elastic band.

We will make a beautiful snow-white collar for the shirt. Put a cape on the shirt. A hat can be made from cardboard by painting it black, and a sword from a ball stick.

To make a collar, you will need:

  1. White satin (approx. 20 cm wide)
  2. Braid or lace in white.

We cut out a rectangle from the material, measure the length approximately so that the collar turns out to be slightly elongated. We fold the rectangle, sew on three sides, turn it inside out, iron it. Smooth the edge (0.5 cm) of the raw side inward, sew again. Sew the braid on top. Sew the finished collar to the shirt.

To make the Musketeer's Cape you will need:

  1. Atlas in light blue or blue.
  2. Ribbon or piping in white, silver or gold for finishing the edge.
  3. White ribbon for making crosses.
  4. Zipper hidden in light blue or blue.

Initially, you need to cut out 2 rectangles. For the first rectangle, the base of the cape, measure the width of the child's shoulders, as well as the length from shoulder to hips. The width of the shoulders will be equal to the width of the rectangle, twice the length from shoulder to hips is the length of the rectangle. The second rectangle - the future sleeves of the cape, will be 5-6 cm less in width and 4, 6 cm shorter in length. It needs to be cut in half.

Cape base (front and back)

Sew a ribbon or edging to the edge of the first rectangle.

Fold in half and cut out the neck. It should fit perfectly under your shirt.

We make an incision at the back and measure on the child's head: the neck should pass freely. Sew a zipper on the back. We process the neck with piping or tape.

Cape sleeves

In order for the sleeves to lie naturally, it is necessary to give them the shape of a semicircle on top.

We form and sew crosses from pieces of white tape.

Sword

Cut out a handle from a piece of satin, sew it, turn it out and fill it with padding polyester or holofiber. Insert a stick from the ball into the hole. On the handle you can embroider with beads or sew on rhinestones.

You can put on gym shoes or light boots on the feet of the musketeer, and the New Year's costume for the boy is ready

One of the favorite carnival outfits from ancient times is the Musketeer costume. Probably, many thanks for this should be said to Alexandre Dumas, who made the four brave and resourceful guys so famous. Perhaps this is not the only point. But nevertheless, the costume of the musketeer will definitely decorate someone at the carnival.

The hat is the main attribute of the outfit

The musketeer costume consists of a cloak, cape and high boots. An important component of the outfit is the weapon: a sword and a musket.

When preparing a hat as the main attribute of an outfit, you should take the process quite seriously. You can use the headdress available in the house. But it is important to understand that the hat should have wide brims and be decorated with a feather. You can use a bright ribbon with a buckle - a certain smartness was characteristic of the Musketeers.

You can make a hat out of cardboard by gluing the parts together and painting it. The pen is also made with paper by hand. After cutting out the contour, you need to make frequent cuts along its edges. By fluffing them with your hands, you can achieve the effect of a natural feather.

Musketeer costume for woman

The representative of the beautiful half of humanity in such an outfit looks very sexy. In this case, the hat can be decorated with lace or a veil. You will definitely need high over the knee boots.

A cape can be used as a basic garment. Dark tights or leggings will emphasize the slenderness of female legs. Although flesh-colored tights are also quite acceptable.

It is possible not to use a cloak at all if a female musketeer costume is being made. The photos presented here show that the wide sleeves of a short dress imitate a cape. It is also worth noting that the outfit can be either black, red or blue. But the emblem of the Musketeers must be sewn or painted on the chest.

The Musketeer Kid is Creative

You can quickly create a spectacular carnival outfit for your baby. Even a novice dressmaker can sew a musketeer costume for a boy. The pattern of the cape-cloak is built in a simple way.

The rectangle should be slightly wider than the child's shoulders. Its second side is usually equal to twice the length of the product if it is planned to make a raincoat without shoulder seams. A hole is made in the middle of the rectangle for the head. The edges of the product are trimmed with lace, an emblem of a contrasting light color is sewn on the chest and back.

You can make a sewn cape. Then each half is cut separately by rectangles with cutouts. It is recommended to slightly slope the shoulders.

You can prepare a shirt under the cloak with wide, puffy sleeves with an elastic band at the wrist. Also sometimes used is a version of this type of garment made from cape fabric. Sew it with wide free sleeves, trimmed with the same lace.

Lace collars, frill - attributes of those years, which the musketeers did not disdain. It is not for nothing that the words "dude" and "dandy" are synonymous with the name.

Drawn or pasted antennae will complement the outfit. A sword or saber can be found in the boy's toys. And the musket is also often taken from the same bins.

Musketeer Boots

If you decide to make a musketeer's costume with your own hands, then you should take care of the boots. Unfortunately, today it is quite difficult for men, boys and boys to find high boots. Then you can use the overhead "freebie" - the upper part of the boots. It is made of leather, leatherette, cardboard, paper, fabric. It is usually made in the form of a truncated cone with a wide bell pointing down. Jewelry made from metal parts on shoes would be appropriate. These are rivets, chains, and shiny buttons.

Additional attributes of the musketeer outfit

Sometimes dressers are not limited to boots, a hat, a cape, and weapons. To make a luxurious and interesting musketeer costume with your own hands, you need to use your imagination.

Therefore, another dresser thinks that a long-haired wig with tight curls falling over the shoulders will be simply necessary in this outfit. If the dresser knows well the story of the acquaintance of the three Musketeers with Charles Ogier de Baz de Castelmore, Count d'Artagnan from Gascony, then he will certainly provide his character with a luxurious lace scarf. After all, it was because of him that a duel ensued, which became the culmination of the acquaintance of inseparable and loyal friends in the future.

Suitable for a musketeer's suit and special sleeves, which are made like a "freebie" boots. They also look like truncated cones, only worn on the wrists. You can wear leather gloves with cut off fingers on the hands of the characters.

Cape emblem

In fact, most often they use a cross-shaped applique with three spurs at each end to decorate a raincoat. But sometimes dressers sew on the cape an emblem with a winged lion or a cross with three upper round ends and one diamond-shaped one at the bottom.
