Prayer by agreement  - This is a conciliar appeal of people to God, who agreed to pray together at a certain time. And despite the fact that worshipers can be separated for many kilometers, this prayer is incredibly strong and effective!

By convention, our monastery brothers read the prayer daily at 21:00 Athenian time.  For other countries, everyone will determine their time for reading, depending on their time zone of residence. If someone cannot read the prayer at the indicated time, you can add it to the evening rule.

The duration of the prayer is not limited. It can be a day, a month, forty days, or more. Each request can be individual. The Lord God Himself knows what we need.

Prayer text by agreement

To the King of Heaven, the Comforter, the Soul of Truth, Even this whole thing to fulfill, Treasure of the good and life to the Giver, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, Better, our soul.
Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, You said with Thy pure lips: “Verily I say unto you, that if the two of you agree on earth to ask for any work, then whatever you ask, it will be from My Heavenly Father, for where there are two or three are gathered in My name, there I am in the midst of them. ” Your words are immutable, Lord, Your mercy is unprofitable and Your love for mankind has no end. Allocating time for reading the prayer rule is the spiritual duty of every Christian. And it was always believed that it is better to pray alone, alone with yourself, you can best feel the Divine word and tune in to a special spiritual wave. Often, a rite is practiced among believers, which was called prayer by agreement, not everyone knows how to pray properly. Believers believe that such a joint spiritual feat has miraculous power.

Important!  Such a prayer appeal is valid only if all participants act deliberately and not under duress.

How to read a prayer by agreement. In order to correctly perform this rite, you need to ask blessings from your confessor for such a feat, and explain to the clergyman the purpose, as well as give the names of those who will pray with you. This is of course the perfect option.

On the basis of this instruction, the so-called “agreement prayer” is practiced in the Orthodox Church. The essence of prayer is already determined by its very name. Several Orthodox agree that at a certain time during the same period of time they will jointly fulfill the same prayer rule, ask the Lord for the same thing, even if they are separated by many kilometers.

Experienced confessors suggested reading it if some person fell into a difficult situation — be it a disease, sorrow, or other everyday difficulties — and I would like it to be corrected. Then he was invited to find several like-minded people who would agree to voluntarily assume the feat of prayer for him. And not just prayers “for all the good”, but for a specific request.

What does “prayer by agreement” look like? Usually ten, twenty or more people agree to read the Psalm together. If 20, then everyone reads one kathisma per day. For example, today is the first, tomorrow is the second, the day after tomorrow is the third ... they also jointly agree on whom they will ask for health and repose. After reading the kathisma, they usually recite the prayer itself by agreement and add a joint petition to it.

Here is the text of the prayer by convention:

Such a prayer was used by Father John of Kronstadt and one of Moscow pastors, Father Konstantin Rovinsky. According to the latter, he had to witness numerous and miraculous cases of the effectiveness of such a prayer: patients who were sentenced to death by doctors recovered: lost vision, walking ability returned; persistent attacks of hatred, etc. When praying by agreement, Father Konstantin Rovensky read the prayer below (morning, afternoon, evening, and night) four times a day, which was also read by those people with whom he agreed to pray until, by the grace of the Lord, the fulfillment of what was requested in prayer.

Prayer by agreement brings great benefit, since there is a particularly intensified prayer for each other, but there are also some temptations.

One of the most common is optional. Those. the man, it seems, agreed that he would read every day on kathisma, and as a result it turns out that he often skips his days and it even happens that the missed one is not catching up, but is left as it is. This is a great responsibility, and an element of self-discipline. If you were instructed to read a certain kathisma, but you did not do this, then the Psalter was not read because of you. If this happens, you must necessarily repent and confess.

Not every person is ready for such a prayer work. Therefore, do not be arbitrary, but it is better to go to the confessor or priest who knows you and ask for blessings.

When the request is not fulfilled ...

God's providence is not always consistent with our aspirations and hopes. Prayer by agreement, the text of which contains the words “But not both we want to be better, but you are also better. Thy will be done forever, ”implies that not all the wishes of the asker can be fulfilled. If a person received what he asked, it is from God, if he did not receive it, then, again, according to the understanding of the Almighty. We must humble ourselves and continue our journey, trusting in the mercy of the Higher powers. F. M. Dostoevsky brilliantly wrote about his bitter experience of the four-year hard labor: “Think - grief; take a closer look - the will of the Lord. ” Orthodox prayers are read with hope and humility. Every believer understands that God's will is not always comprehensible. But God always gives man what he really needs.

Do I need to set a deadline?

I think no. Because God has his own terms. What is six months, a year, ten years? We know examples from the Holy Scriptures when all the deadlines have already passed, but the Lord fulfilled the promise. Remember Joachim and Anna, Abraham and Sarah - how many years they prayed and the Lord sent what was asked when even hope was gone. Remember, it was even funny for them that they would become parents at that age, but nevertheless, the will of God is immutable. If the Lord said yes, then yes.

It is especially important: before beginning the reading of a joint prayer, it is necessary to take a blessing for this from a priest who knows your spiritual mood. To tell him that there is such a request, such a problem or such a misfortune, whether it is possible for us to pray for the Lord to bless and resolve the situation. It is possible to read a prayer by agreement in a text in Russian, despite the fact that in a mass version it is presented in the Old Russian or Russified version of the Church Slavonic language.

It does not matter how a person pronounces the words, because the prayer arrangement is important to God, but the Church Slavonic language is most adapted and preferred. The main thing is that the person himself understands the words about which he prays, meaningfully pronouncing each word. Old Russian and Church Slavonic language can be translated into any other language, and this will not constitute a violation.

It would seem that such a perfect and fantastic phenomenon should please everyone and we could live in paradise for a long time, if everything was so simple. And this doubt is not in vain. There are a number of “minuses” that a prayer appeal brings with it. They can be inconvenient to many people, but, this in no way diminishes its dignity. It’s just practically impossible to please the majority of people; it’s enough to remember Jesus Christ, the founder of Orthodoxy, who didn’t please almost the entire Jewish community, although he never did any harm to anyone. The disadvantage is as follows:

• It does not guarantee receipt of that particular thing or that phenomenon in life that is being asked for;
• There is no fixed time frame when help will come;
• You can pray for a very long time, but a person will be left without what is asked.

It is important to remember the prayer or prayer that compliance with all conditions for obtaining the desired result from prayer does not contradict those moments when the prayer does not give the desired result. There are a number of explanations for this, the majority of which you can try to count:

• a person asks for something that is not useful to him, it can even be harmful (praying, he begins to realize this as an answer to God’s request);
• improper time (God knows better about the timing in order to accept a gift, it takes time to ripen for a gift);
• God wants to give a person something better (the longer the prayer is offered, the greater the gift will be sent from the Almighty);
• Pride and pride (petitions are offered for the benefit of oneself, in the name of satisfying selfish needs and have nothing to do with God).
