In the centuries-old Russian culture, the art of bathing has always occupied one of the important places, since it was from here that people drew strength and health. At a time when in civilized Europe it was not fashionable to wash, and the smell of an unclean body was masked by various aromas, in Russia it was an immutable tradition to visit a bathhouse with a steam room once a week.

Today, alas, few know how to steam properly in a bath for health not only physical, but also spiritual, but good procedures performed in the steam room can cleanse the body of accumulated toxins, balance the state of mind, since everything is interconnected in the human body.

The bath helps to cure any disease, provided that medicinal herbs are used correctly and the required temperature in the steam room is maintained. It restores blood circulation, the functionality of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, relieves stress and physical fatigue, cleanses and rejuvenates the body.

In order for bath procedures to be useful and effective, you need to know how to carry them out correctly, since in some cases the bath can even harm the human body.

The bath will not be effective if you take the procedure hastily. An atmosphere of calmness and unhurriedness should reign in its premises, therefore, for this event, you need to allocate unlimited time, which will allow you not only to steam well, but also to relax after the main procedures.

It is believed that it is best to take a steam bath in the first half of the day, when the organism, which is not tired of everyday activities, is still full of strength and can easily withstand the increased load on the heart from high temperatures.

In order for the event to take place in a comfortable environment, the following accessories must be present in the bath:

  • A bucket with a scoop is a wooden container, usually made of oak, which has a dense wood structure and almost does not absorb moisture. In addition, oak has a number of properties that have a beneficial effect on the overall health of the body, therefore this wood always occupies a “privileged” position in the sauna. Not only accessories are made from it, but also used for interior decoration.

  • Broom. This accessory is required for a Russian bath and is chosen depending on the result that you would like to get. It is worth learning more about brooms, so more detailed information will be presented below.

  • Felt hat for the steam room - it is necessary to protect the head from overheating, since the hot air in the steam room rises up and is approximately at the level of human growth. Overheating of the head is especially dangerous for people who are sensitive to high blood pressure.
  • Two terry towels, one for drying and the other for laying on the bench.
  • Bathrobe or sheet to wrap after the procedures.

  • Rubber flip flops with non-slip soles that are water resistant. They are especially necessary if the trip is carried out in a public bath - for hygienic reasons.

  • Natural washcloths or wool gloves and massage brushes to help cleanse skin and open pores.
  • Soap accessories.

For a healing effect, depending on the ailment, various oils are taken into the bath, made on the basis of natural raw materials of medicinal herbs and fruits. They are added to the hot pebbles of the stove, mixed with water. The aroma of these substances fills the space of the room, and has an amazing effect on the state of those taking bath procedures.

One of the main accessories of the steam room are brooms, the preparation process of which has its own secrets. Raw materials for them are cut at a certain period of time and dried in a special way. Branches of various trees and herbs are used for brooms - each of them has a certain effect on the human body. Some heal the skin and relieve spasms, others, due to the content of resinous substances, are able to disinfect the air in the steam room, bringing relief from colds and bronchitis of a different nature.

Any bath broom, when steamed, releases phytoncides, which are harmful to bacteria. Essential oils contained in plants help to activate metabolic processes in the body and prevent aging of the skin, so the use of this accessory in a steam room is simply necessary.

Birch broom

Birch branches are the most popular for making bath brooms. This can be explained not only by the usefulness of the properties of this tree, but also by its availability, since birch can be found in almost every region of Russia.

The most popular in our area are birch brooms

Birch branches are flexible, and its leaves are porous and moderately wide. After drying, they adhere well to the branches, steamed well, taking on a fresh look and aroma. While steaming, the leaves adhere perfectly to the body and absorb sweat protruding from the heat, cleansing the pores. It should be noted that the cleansing properties of a birch broom are much higher than those of eucalyptus or oak. First, a dry broom is used, since its leaves, devoid of cellular fluid, collect sweat well, and then the branches are dipped in hot water and continue to massage the body.

In addition to cleansing actions, a birch broom helps to relieve painful rheumatic pains in the joints and spine.

Birch branches are harvested in dry weather, starting in June. Branches are cut with a length of 500 ÷ 600 mm from trees growing in lowlands or on the banks of water bodies. However, if there are none, branches from birch groves, which grow in areas with any relief, will do.

Oak broom

The oak version of the bath broom is also considered traditional, since the oak foliage contains substances that, under the influence of steam, can lower blood pressure and relieve inflammation from the skin.

Oak broom is a great alternative to birch

Correctly harvested branches hold the leaves well after drying, therefore, during bathing procedures, they do not fly off and do not stick to the body. It is good to blow steam onto the body with an oak broom - this property is used by those who want to thoroughly warm up and steam.

Procurement of oak brooms is carried out from June to August. Branches are cut from trees located in dense oak forests. A guideline for choosing a good oak is the burdocks with large leaves growing next to it.

Linden broom

Linden has long been used in Russia for the treatment and prevention of various diseases of the respiratory tract. Its fragrant color, smelling of honey, spreads from trees for tens of meters in spring. At this time, not only the color of linden is collected for brewing broths, but thin branches of 500 ÷ 600 mm in length are also cut off for imposing brooms.

If it was not possible to prepare a bath accessory at this time, then this can be done throughout the summer period. True, the branches will not be so fragrant, but they will not lose their main beneficial properties and will help in the prevention of colds, relieve headaches, cleanse the skin and relieve inflammation from it.

Eucalyptus broom

Eucalyptus has a tart, persistent scent and has also long been used to treat various diseases. The narrow leaves of eucalyptus have an oblong shape and a bright green color that does not fade after drying and high temperatures. This is due to the fact that they contain a large amount of essential oils in their composition.

Most of our eucalyptus broom is exotic

It should be noted that not every person is able to withstand the fumes that a whole bunch of eucalyptus branches gives, so experienced bath attendants advise adding only one or two branches to a birch, linden or oak broom. In addition, the branches of this plant are thin enough and not elastic, so they are not very effective for massage, and together with others they will have an excellent combination.

Eucalyptus grows only in those regions where winter temperatures rarely drop below 8–10 degrees, and in Russia it can be found only on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. Therefore, a bath broom made of eucalyptus branches can be considered a kind of "luxury".

If you really want to try a steam room with the scent of eucalyptus, but you could not find a broom from it, then you can try to make a thick decoction from its leaves, which are purchased in a pharmacy pack in dry form.

Juniper broom

Juniper branches are used in the bath for the treatment of rheumatism and the respiratory system. They have a wonderful resin aroma and are bactericidal. Most often they are used for laying on the benches of the steam room, since they are enough pegs, and not every sauna lover will withstand a massage from them. However, they say that having tried the touch of a juniper during a light massage or lying on its branches, you want to repeat this feeling again.

Since this shrub is evergreen, you can cut it at any time of the year, but it is best to use its young shoots that appear in mid-summer. They are not as hard and choppy as they become by the winter period.

Coniferous brooms (spruce, fir, cedar)

Various ailments can be cured with brooms made of coniferous branches. Having in the composition of their needles a large number of different resins and vitamins, they perfectly disinfect and facilitate the air in the steam room, making it curative. For example, fir helps to relieve rheumatoid pains, and spruce and cedar help to get rid of respiratory diseases that have arisen for various reasons.

They are often laid on benches in the steam room and laid on them. Under the influence of temperature, the needles release essential oils, which, penetrating through the opened pores, produce a healing effect on the internal organs and directly on the skin, nourishing it.

It is impossible to harvest coniferous brooms for future use, since when the needles dry out, it becomes tough and falls off the branches, especially since they lose their medicinal properties when dried. Therefore, such brooms are cut immediately before going to the steam room.

Nettle broom

Not many people know how useful a broom from the branches of nettles, which is harvested before the flowering of the grass, in the middle of summer. Even with a light touch of the skin with a nettle broom, the effect of a deep skin massage is obtained with a slight tingling sensation and the appearance of a pleasant blush on it. Nettle normalizes blood circulation, strengthens the walls of blood vessels, massaging, rejuvenates the skin, making it elastic.

Wormwood broom

A wormwood broom is unlikely to help massage, so it is more often added to the middle of more flexible branches and dried together, or used for flooring on a bench. Wormwood has a beneficial effect on the treatment of the gallbladder, stomach, liver, and helps with rheumatism. At high temperatures, the grass begins to release substances that help open the pores, thanks to which the skin can breathe, absorbing the beneficial substances contained in wormwood, and these are organic acids, essential oils and tannins.

Grass is harvested after it has faded, at which time its stems are already strong, but not coarse and have relative flexibility. After that, they collect it in bouquets, tie it up and dry it.

Rowan, currant and cherry broom

If you could not find the brooms mentioned above for the steam room, then a bouquet of branches of such shrubs and trees as cherries, currants or mountain ash will do. These plants have tremendous vitamin potential and a wonderful aroma, which manifests itself when leaves and branches of plants enter a room heated to high temperatures. The branches of cherry, currant and mountain ash are flexible enough, and they are good for light massage of the steamed body, which has a beneficial effect on the skin. Fragrant vapors, penetrating into the respiratory organs, carry out a preventive effect and prevent the occurrence of colds.

After using a mountain ash broom, a person develops an increased working capacity due to a surge of strength. Therefore, if the trip to the bathhouse was carried out in the first half of the day, and it was mountain ash branches that were used in the steam room, the person taking the procedures will not be too relaxed, but, on the contrary, will receive a charge of vivacity for the rest of the day.

So that any of the dried brooms does not lose its aroma, it is first dipped in cold water to saturate it with moisture, and then quickly transferred to the hot pebbles of the stove. After heating, the leaves will begin to give off aroma to the steam room.

Having removed the broom from the stones, it is imperative to remove the leaves remaining on them, otherwise, when they dry, they will begin to burn and smoke, spoiling the fresh sauna atmosphere.

When using a broom in a steam room, you need to take into account one important point - its handle should be wrapped in a soft cloth or, when using it, a mitten should be put on your hand, which will protect your palms from the appearance of calluses.

How to steam properly?

Steaming correctly is a whole science

You need to take a steam bath correctly so as not to harm your health through negligence or unknowingly, since not every person's body is able to withstand high temperatures without negative consequences.

For example, for a beginner who decides to start healing with the help of bath procedures, for the first time, one visit to the steam room is enough, for 3 ÷ 5 minutes, which must be spent lying on the lower shelf.

Those who have experience in the art of taking a good steam can make 3 ÷ 4 visits, and for experienced sauna lovers, ideally visit the steam room at least 6 ÷ 7 times with rest breaks, during which a cool shower is taken.

  • Before entering the steam room, you should definitely wash yourself well under a warm shower using a washcloth, but without soap. If you have to steam in a dry sauna, then you need to thoroughly wipe the skin.

In the event that it is cool in the shower and the body has not warmed up enough, it is recommended to warm your legs by lowering them into a basin with very warm water, and then gradually warm it up by adding hot water. After the body is prepared, you can go to the steam room.

If it’s hot outside, then when you go to take a steam bath, you should not immediately go up to the top shelf - you need to let the body adapt. To do this, it is best to sit on the bottom or lie on the middle shelf. The recommended room temperature during the first entry should be no more than 60 degrees.

  • When entering the steam room for the first time, be sure to put a felt hat on your head and take a towel with you.

The first run should last about 3 ÷ 5 minutes, and it is better to spend this time lying on the shelf, on the stomach or on the back, placing a special wooden headrest under the head.

In the supine state, the body warms up evenly and quickly adapts to high temperatures.

When sweat appears on the skin, you need to leave the steam room, and immediately take a shower with cool water for 7-10 seconds. If there is an opportunity to jump into the pool, you should not deny yourself this pleasure. You can, of course, just sit for 5-7 minutes in the dressing room and cool down a little.

  • For the second run, which can last 2 ÷ 3 minutes longer, you need to spread a towel or dry herbs on the shelf, prepare a broom and fill the tub with warm water or a decoction of medicinal plants.

- If you take a freshly cut broom into the steam room, you can only rinse it in water, and the healing bouquet will be ready for use.

- A dry broom should be soaked and left for a while, until it becomes soft and a pleasant aroma comes from it.

- If the procedure takes place in a room with wet steam, then the broom is placed in advance on the uppermost shelf - after a while it will steam out on its own and it can be used.

- Having pulled the broom out of the water, it is placed on the stove for a few seconds. It quickly heats up to the desired temperature and enhances its flavor.

- Further, with a bouquet of medicinal plants, you need to pump heated air to the body, and not whip yourself with it immediately, as many do. This process is carried out in smooth movements, by analogy with a fan. Fanning and pressing the broom begins with the legs, passing along the feet and calves, rising to the buttocks and back, along the torso, shoulders and arms, and then lowering back.

- After the body gets used to this procedure, proceed to more intense actions - the body can be whipped slightly, while the foliage should adhere to the skin, so the broom is periodically dipped in water.

- Carrying out this process, lying on a shelf, you need to constantly turn, changing position in order to reduce the load on the heart, relax muscles and ligaments. In addition, the shelf itself made of smooth bars will become a kind of massager for the whole body.

- It is better, of course, if a partner will conduct the pressing and massage procedures with the help of a broom, since he will have more opportunity, without missing a single site, to process the whole body.

- After finishing the massage, you cannot get up abruptly. You need to lie quietly on a bench and rest, then sit down to normalize blood circulation and pressure, and only then you can go for a cool shower.

- Returning to the steam room, the heat in it needs to be increased by splashing a decoction of herbs or water on the hot pebbles of the stove - this will require 150 ÷ \u200b\u200b300 grams of liquid. At the same time, the temperature in the steam room should not rise much, only the air is humidified and the amount of steam is added. Do not pour too much water on the stones, as when high humidity occurs, the air becomes heavier and it will be much more difficult to breathe.

Therefore, the room must maintain the desired ratio of humidity and temperature. The optimum is considered to be 25 ÷ 40% and 65 ÷ 80 ° C.

To control the heating process and the level of humidity, you need to purchase a special device for the steam room - a thermohygrometer.

  • After completing all procedures, you must definitely wash yourself well with warm water and soap in order to wash off all sweat separated during vaping. Then rub yourself well with a towel, put on a terry robe, warm slippers and rest for 15-25 minutes, sipping hot herbal decoction. In this case, sweating should continue.
  • Having steamed in a bathrobe with a hot drink, you should take a shower again and rub yourself dry, then wrap yourself in a towel and rest for 25 ÷ 35 minutes.

Bath drinks are tea or medicinal teas, not beer or stronger alcohol!

Each time you enter the steam room, you need to stay in it until it warms up completely and sweat appears, as well as redness of the skin. The time of all visits should be no more than 45 minutes, each of them lasts 3 ÷ 10 minutes. If we count all the vaping procedures, taking into account the rest, cooling down and taking a shower, then a total "high-quality" trip to the bathhouse will take two to three hours.

If such an event gave good results, and the state of health after it has significantly improved, then the next time the time in the steam room and the number of visits can be gradually increased.

We must not forget that for those who first decided to visit the steam room, and for the elderly, the time spent in the steam room should be increased very carefully, with each entry - literally by one minute.

What should be considered when going to the steam room?

In the absence of contraindications for visiting the steam room, you still need to follow certain rules, since if you ignore them, you can harm even an absolutely healthy body.

  • When going to the bath, you need to calculate the time so that after a meal, one and a half to two hours pass, that is, the stomach should not be full, but it also cannot be empty.
  • Before going to the steam room and during the procedures, it is strictly forbidden to consume alcoholic beverages.
  • If hard physical work was performed, then before entering the bath, you need to rest for 35 ÷ 40 minutes.
  • It is forbidden to visit the bathhouse with an elevated body temperature.
  • It is undesirable to take a steam bath before going to bed, after a hard day at work, as the bath increases the load on the heart.
  • Before entering the steam room, do not take a shower with soap and wet your head.
  • A heated room, especially for beginners, can only be entered by wearing a bath hat.
  • You should not visit the steam room in upset feelings or mental stress, as this condition also puts a strain on the heart and raises blood pressure.

Read about how to take a steam bath in a Russian bath, what precautions should be followed, how to enhance the health-improving effect of taking bath procedures, read our article.

Many people mistakenly believe that they know how to take a steam bath. Meanwhile, this is a whole art, which has its own masters, who perfectly understand that a bath, if treated negligently, can cause serious harm to health.

Finnish baths (saunas) are very common in cities today, although there is little that can be compared with the traditional Russian bath in terms of its therapeutic effect.

Helpful information:

What to take with you to the sauna?

  • birch broom (preferably two at once);
  • felt gloves or ordinary mittens;
  • slippers;
  • a terry towel or a special bath mat;
  • bath hat;
  • soap, comb and other hygiene items.

Before going to the bathhouse, you need to prepare brooms in advance. It is best to soak them in cold water the day before the bath, and then wrap them in a wet cloth. The brooms will become firmer and retain their scent. Then, when you enter the steam room, you need to let the brooms steam, placing them on the hot stones. The brooms will acquire the necessary softness and fill the steam room with an unforgettable forest scent.

Training

The layout of the bath includes two main premises: a dressing room and a steam room. Entering it from the street, you first of all find yourself in the dressing room. Having undressed in the dressing room, it is useful to douse yourself with warm water or stand for a couple of minutes under the shower. You do not need to use soap or gel, so as not to wash off the fat layer on the skin, which protects you from overheating.

Try not to soak your head - this is harmful and can lead to overheating in the steam room. Instead, dampen a bath cap with cold water and place it over your head. Then you can wipe your body dry with a towel and boldly go to the steam room.

In the steam room

Entering the steam room, do not immediately grab a broom and start whipping yourself with it. It is necessary that your body gets used to the sauna atmosphere, because you are going to relax and enjoy. Therefore, to begin with, sit down on the bottom shelf with a towel underneath you.

Sit or lie on it for a couple of minutes and go back to the dressing room, remembering to quickly close the door behind you so as not to let off steam. You can drink herbal tea, warming up the body from the inside. Only, please, no alcohol - this is contrary to all traditions, no matter how strange it may seem to you! Experienced bath attendants never drink alcohol in the bathhouse at all.

If the temperature in the steam room should be in the range of 50-60 degrees during the first visit, then the second time you can turn on the heat! Do not overdo it - 80 degrees is enough. Serve with hot water only. Climb up the shelf and stay in the steam room for five to seven minutes. Then go back out. Walk around for a bit or have a cup of tea.

After a few minutes, you can go back to the steam room, taking a broom with you. Now you can take a steam bath. Hold the broom over the stones, letting it warm up. To avoid scalding, wear felt mittens or mittens while holding the broom.

Steaming is best done together. One lies on his stomach, relaxing, and the other, with the help of a broom, catches up steam, lightly touching the body like a fan, starting from the feet. Then you need to roll over onto your back and do the same procedure, warming up the body.

When sweat comes out on the body, you can finally steam up for real. The lower the temperature in the steam room, the stronger the blow should be. Therefore, at high temperatures, you should not whip a person too much. After steaming, you can not suddenly get up from the shelf.

You need to act slowly, otherwise you may lose your balance and fall, which is dangerous, because there are hot objects around. If you were lying down, sit down for a while, and then leave the steam room, not forgetting with you a broom.

There is no need to set “survival” records in the bathhouse. This is contrary to the spirit of bathing procedures. They are aimed at healing and rejuvenation, and not at resistance to high temperatures. Save your health and do not stay in the steam room for a long time. Five to seven minutes per run is quite enough. Listen to how your body feels. If you think you've had enough, don't delay.

Contrasting procedures such as dousing with cold water, diving into a pond or jumping into the snow should be carried out only in between visits, but not after a bath.

Aromatic oils

Herbal infusions not only fill the steam room with a delicious aroma, but also have a beneficial effect on the body. Peppermint oil calms the nerves and relaxes. Linden promotes profuse sweating and helps with colds. Infusion of thyme helps with insomnia.

Before putting oil on stones, you need to add plain water. You can also rinse the walls in the bath with infusion, but not people, which is fraught with the appearance of an unpleasant odor. After the oil, you should again put water on the stones.

Infusions are not only useful for the substances they contain, but also for their smells. Scientists have proven that a pleasant aroma has a beneficial effect on the psyche, relieves stress and improves well-being.

How to steam for weight loss

To enhance the effect of losing weight from the bath, you need:

  • do not take contrast procedures;
  • make short but frequent visits to the steam room;
  • drinking warm drinks that stimulate profuse sweating
  • steam lying down;
  • do not eat much before the bath.

Bath for diseases

People suffering from serious illnesses need to be very careful about going to the bathhouse. It is best if you consult a qualified doctor on this matter.

The bath is useful for lung diseases, as it promotes the excretion of phlegm and has a beneficial effect on the bronchi.

In case of joint diseases, the bath relieves pain, as well as relaxes muscles and strengthens the immune system.

In case of skin diseases, it is also useful to visit the bathhouse, as it has a positive effect on the skin, improves blood circulation and metabolism.

A bath is an essential element of a healthy life. This word means specially equipped establishments for washing and exposure to high temperatures, combined with water, steam, hot air. Or the whole set of procedures performed there.

Baths on the vast territory of Russia have their own differences. There you can not only wash, but also improve your health, relax, rejuvenate. In cold weather, you can warm up in the sauna, and in the dry summer season you can enjoy the humid heat. To reap the maximum benefits, you need to know that there are several modes of ablution that can be beneficial to your health.

Even in the same bath, you can create different conditions and get a different result. This will depend on many factors: temperature, humidity, time spent in the steam room, the method of obtaining contrasting sensations, the use of oils, brooms, and so on.

Types of bath facilities

How to take a steam bath for health will depend on its modification. The characteristics of a particular organism are also important. The bathhouse, in its various modifications, existed for many centuries among different peoples. The Italians called it terms, in the Land of the Rising Sun - ofuro. The Egyptians also understood a lot about the bathing business, indulging in this procedure 6 times a day. The most popular varieties are Russian baths, Turkish hammam and sauna.

Eastern bath (hammam)

Their features are directly related to their native climate. In dry and hot conditions, this type of bath has acquired comfortable parameters. The air temperature in it rises no higher than 45-55 degrees. High humidity (up to 100%) makes the air enveloping. It is she who has the main effect on the body in the hammam.

Health benefits? In the hammam, the sequence of actions should be as follows: after being on the heated marble loungers and complete relaxation, the body is rubbed with a hard mitten. When the pores have opened, the body needs to be covered with a significant layer of foam. This can be done with a washcloth. This massage ends with bathing in warm water and immersion in the coolness of the pool. After wiping down, it is possible to apply medical cosmetics and conduct a full massage. The hammam stimulates blood circulation and metabolism. A feature of this type of steam treatment is the active use of oils. And the gradual addition of washcloths leads to effective exfoliation.

Sauna

The Finnish version of the bath is the opposite of the hammam: at high temperatures (up to 100 °), the moisture content in the air is low (up to 25%). The impact on the body occurs with a dry hot heat. Such difficult conditions require knowledge of how to take a steam bath with benefits for your health. Splashing water on hot stones is absolutely unacceptable in it. In this case, there is a high probability of getting thermal burns.

Immersion in cold water alternates with heating in the sauna. This mode is a contrast charging for the cardiovascular system. Brooms are not used. When you lie or sit in the sauna, there is a complete warming up in a dry and sterile atmosphere. After the treatments, you can have massage treatments.

Russian sauna

It combines the high temperature of a sauna and steam from a hammam. There are many options for its device. In a classic Russian bath, the temperature reaches 50-60 °. In combination with moisture, deep heating of tissues occurs, which largely provides a therapeutic effect. A feature of the Russian version is the use of bath brooms. This is massage, and the movement of layers of air, and the release of essential oils. When changing the heat of the steam room to or dipping into a pond, several therapeutic factors simultaneously affect the body. To get the full effect, everything must be correct: the bath itself, and the steam regime, and brooms. For example, with proper construction, stones can heat up to 350 degrees. It is this temperature that will give light, weightless steam.

Who needs a bath

The bathhouse became popular not as a place for ablutions, but as a complex of recreational activities. The unique effects of high temperatures along with steam, massage and essential oils on the body occur in several ways:

  1. Temperature changes occurring in a contrast mode train the cardiovascular system with regular visits to the steam room. This increases the resistance to stress and hypothermia. Therefore, the bath is recommended for patients with frequent illnesses and dystonia.
  2. When exposed to elevated temperature and steam, slags are released from the sweat glands. Dead epithelial cells are removed. With regular visits to the steam room, the excretory function of the skin is normalized. For patients with decreased turgor and impaired work of the sweat and sebaceous glands, the bath will be indispensable.
  3. Temperature fluctuations increase the production of immunoglobulins that resist infectious agents entering the body. Studies have established a connection between the regularity of visiting the bath and a decrease in the number of cases of colds. For those who are sick often and for a long time, the effect of the bath will be most noticeable.
  4. Increased sweating not only reduces waste products, but also reduces weight. The restoration of the rate of metabolic processes is due to the normalization of body weight, sometimes significant. The bathhouse will provide invaluable service to obese patients after consultation with a specialist.
  5. Deep relaxation and warming up bring significant benefits in diseases of the musculoskeletal system, especially after trauma and stress.

This can be achieved if you know how to take a steam bath with health benefits. To achieve a significant effect on health, both the particulars of a particular bath and the regime of procedures are important. The choice of a broom, the use of essential oils and herbal decoctions are also important.

Contraindications

Despite the positive effect on health, there is a list of conditions in which the bath can be fatal:

    Hyperthermia.

    Acute period of any disease.

    Oncological pathology.

    Endocrine Disorders.

    Pustular skin diseases.

  • When sitting on a shelf, you must use a towel or other natural material. This is due to the high temperature in the bath.
  • It is necessary to take the optimal position. Standing in the steam room is not recommended, but what is the right way? For health, it is recommended to take a steam bath in a Russian bath while sitting or lying down. It is especially effective to be positioned horizontally. This ensures uniform heating of all body tissues.
  • The total time spent in the bath should be at least 2-2.2 hours. It includes a stay in the steam room, shower and pool.
  • You need to take a steam bath individually. The first entry into the steam room is about 5 minutes. If you do not know how to take a steam bath correctly, it is better for your health to be guided by your well-being.
  • Move slowly in the steam room. First you need to sit on a lounger, sit for a while, then get up (without sudden movements) and only then go out into a cool room.

Choosing a broom for a bath

The main bath attribute in the bath is a broom. Their diversity requires an understanding of the situation in which each should be applied. Brooms must be prepared in the summer, preferably in July, in dry weather. The branches are cleaned in the area of \u200b\u200bthe handle gently. Light, fluffy bunches are formed, which are immediately tied with a woolen thread and then dried. In this case, you must avoid exposure to sunlight. Store dry specimens in a ventilated area with low humidity.

The most favorite broom in Russia is birch. It is easy to use and has significant healing effects. The anti-inflammatory and wound-healing effects of the leaves of this tree have long been known. It is actively used for skin diseases, including pustular. enhances the diaphoretic effect of the steam room. Its essential oils affect the respiratory system, increase the discharge of phlegm. Signs of a quality broom are the preservation of most of the leaves on the branches. They should be smooth without mucus. This broom can be used twice.

If you prepare oak branches in August or September, they will not yield to birch in a steam room. They perfectly pump and redistribute steam, are convenient for use. Bark tannins increase skin tone.

Eucalyptus broom is also often used. It has an antiseptic effect. In a steam room, it can be used to achieve the effect of steam-wet inhalation. Remember to breathe through your nose. In this case, the upper respiratory tract will be treated with essential oils, and air of the required temperature and humidity will enter the lungs. Eucalyptus brooms are best harvested in August. Due to the small leaf area, they are recommended to be combined with birch and oak. This preserves the healing effect and reduces the energy consumption of the attendant for steaming.

Using a broom

How to take a steam bath for health? With a broom, this is clear to everyone! After brewing a dry broom with boiling water for 10-15 minutes or soaking it for 10-14 hours in cold water, it is ready to use. You need to steam like this:

  • First, you need to drive air along the body on the sides. After 4-5 series of movements of the broom from the heels to the crown and back, sweat will come out. This will be the signal to move on to the next stage.
  • Lower hot air from the upper layers onto the body of the steaming person. He is captured by a broom and falls flat on his legs and back.
  • Light rubbing. It is carried out with a broom from the legs to the head and back. Patting is easy. Inexperienced bath attendants need to remember that this is not whipping, but rubbing.

What to do after the bath

In the bathhouse several cycles "steam room-shower or pool" take 2-3 hours. During breaks, you can drink herbal tea, avoiding diuretic fees. Then you can use scrubs. Then you need to wash, dry off, rub in cosmetics. After complete drying and decrease in body temperature, you can go outside.

What is needed in the bath, except for steam

It is easier to achieve a good effect by combining several healing factors and figuring out how to properly steam in a bath for health. With honey, essential oils, a broom and cosmetic creams, you can support the restoration of the cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, nervous systems and skin. Having chosen the right combination of the pair regime, the type of broom, tea, additional funds, it is necessary to apply them regularly. Only in this case, the bath will have a lasting healing effect.

Steam + heat is the formula of Russian baths, which promote deep warming of the whole organism. The temperature in such rooms is approximately +70 degrees, but the humidity reaches 100%. Such a bath consists of a steam room and a dressing room, as well as a washing section, which can be separated from the steam room or combined with it. In the steam room there is a stove with rounded cobblestones, which, after heating, are watered with specially prepared water with admixtures of medicinal plants.

Slippers, a broom, a towel and "something to drink" - this is not an exhaustive list of accessories that will be useful for rest and recovery in a Russian bath. Of course, in modern establishments, guests are offered all the necessary arsenal, from disposable soap to whole bath sets, but a pre-assembled bag will help save money and make the procedure more useful and enjoyable.

Minimum set

Bathrobe or bath towel (large) - what should be put in the bag first of all, it is not for nothing that they are called that.

The following is also required:

  • replaceable underwear;
  • sheet for shelves;
  • removable rubberized shoes (preferably slippers);
  • regular towel;
  • hat (both special felt and woolen are suitable);
  • shampoo and shower gel or soap;
  • rigid mitten (necessary in order to rub the body);
  • broom.

We must not forget about drinks, since a large amount of liquid you drink is a guarantee of proper relaxation in the bath. Alcohol should be excluded immediately, but fruit drinks, juices, teas, mineral water (only without gas) will do just fine. You should also think about brewing herbs in a thermos in advance.

The procedure will be most useful if you prepare a scrub and a body mask at home.

Linden, oak, coniferous - which broom is better?

“In the bathhouse, a broom is more valuable than money” is a primordially Russian proverb that makes sense. But, the choice of "bouquets" for health improvement is so great that even an experienced visitor to the baths might be confused. Each of these attributes has its own properties and affects the body in different ways.

Birch - is the most popular and deservedly considered a symbol of the Russian baths. Substances that are secreted by the leaves of this tree, namely essential oils, vitamins such as C and A, tannins, disinfect the air and kill microbes. It will be useful for smokers and people with pulmonary diseases. In addition, the Russian birch tree perfectly improves immunity, improves tone, improves the condition of the skin and smoothes wrinkles.

It is hardly inferior to birch. This natural "antiseptic" is suitable for people with oily and inflamed skin. But it is indicated for use by athletes and hypertensive patients, since it has a relaxing, calming effect. It is worth paying attention to this particular tree for those who suffer from increased sweating, since the oak leaves contain tannins. This species is a little heavier than birch, but it is enough for several procedures.

Lime a broom is an excellent anti-cold, anti-inflammatory agent. The pairs of these leaves help to successfully fight head pains and eliminate sleep disturbances. And using it in cosmetic procedures, you can forget about acne, freckles and age spots.

A useful, pleasant but lesser known broom is bird cherry... Its amazing scent will make the vaping experience pleasant, but the substances contained in it will help heal wounds and ulcers on the body. By itself, it is very soft, and therefore it is most popular with the fair sex.

Soft, fragrant, but, unfortunately, completely fragile - currant and cherry brooms. There is practically no benefit from them, but maximum pleasure.

Coniferous brooms, namely cedar, spruce, fir, deserve a lot of attention, since they are suitable only for experienced bathers due to their "roughness". These types are absolutely not suitable for people who have delicate skin. But, frequent colds, headaches and toothaches, rheumatism, lung diseases, diseases of the intestines and liver, lichen - all that can be cured (at least relieved) with the help of a "thorny broom"

Conifers brooms can be softened by prolonged steaming and adding deciduous tree branches to its composition.

One of the exotic species should also be mentioned, namely eucalyptus (only from twig eucalyptus). This broom, when used regularly, helps to fight many types of lung diseases. Moreover, such an attribute is quite expensive, and it is not convenient enough for them to pump heat.

Note that all the brooms listed above should not necessarily consist of only one plant. They can be combined with each other, as well as supplemented with such leaves as ash, maple, wormwood, tansy and others.

Useful but not required attributes

The ritual of “cleansing” is obligatory in the bath. At the same time, it is natural components that act most effectively on the skin and body, and not the "chemistry" popular today.

So, before going to cleansing procedures, it is recommended:

  • grab a lemon to the bath. This fruit should be rubbed on the body in front of the steam room. It has the property of a kind of "catalyst" for fast and wide opening of pores;

  • prepare a honey mask: add salt to liquid or melted honey (250 g), only sea salt (200 g), coffee (boiled grounds of the ground product), sugar, sour cream (a few tablespoons), a drop of oil (essential). Such a mass is rubbed into the body in front of the steam room, where it is sent for 10-15 minutes to heighten the effect. After it, the skin becomes what is called "like a baby's";

  • take care of a nourishing "cocktail" for the face. Namely, combine cream, ground bran, yeast. Such a mask is applied at the end of the bath procedures to the face, whose steamed pores are happy to absorb such a mixture. The face becomes silky and has a healthy complexion.

Steam action

When the body enters an environment with temperatures exceeding 36.6 degrees, it begins to actively excrete sweat, trying to avoid overheating. This feature is also used in the bath. How is this useful? It's simple, the fat under the skin accumulates a lot of by no means useful substances, and with profuse sweating, they all come out.

Steam helps to open pores, increase blood circulation, which manifests itself through reddening of the skin. In this case, "active processes" occur not only from the outside, but also in the internal organs, since the blood begins to deliver the required amounts of nutrients.

Considering all this, it can be explained why it is recommended to drink as much liquid as possible during the bath procedures. But, not in one gulp, and not chilled soda, but exclusively fruit drinks, compotes or herbal teas. Such liquid is not excreted from the body, but evenly spreads throughout the body and restores lost reserves.

Here it is necessary to stipulate the rather popular diving in cold water (rubbing with snow, pouring ice water). Such a ritual helps to quickly close the pores and the following happens: hot blood from the skin "leaves" in the deeper words of the body, thereby warming them up. The next visit to the steam room activates the body's work not only on the skin, but also in the internal organs.

Steam is cold, a combination that requires breaks. They are needed to restore strength (the load on the heart in the baths is quite large), and to replenish the body's fluid reserves.

Bath visit process step by step

"Everything in good time" is a rule that it would be nice to adopt when going to the bathhouse. Here, it is strictly forbidden to go to the steam room the same hour, since the body has not yet been prepared. First, you should undress and stand under running water in the shower stall, gradually increasing the temperature of the water (so that the body has time to warm up). In this case, it is important not to give a chance to get your head wet.

Do not forget about steaming the broom. For this:

  • the broom is washed in a warm shower, shakes off the water;
  • wet it is placed in a bag and tied under the neck so that only its handle sticks out;
  • at the first entry, it is placed on the upper or middle shelf of the bath for 5-7 minutes.

The first run should not exceed 5 minutes.

  • be sure to wear a special hat (without this it is absolutely impossible);

  • sit or lie down - it's up to you, but in the prone position, the legs must be above the head (to avoid overloading the heart)
  • you need to start steaming only from the lower shelves (here the temperature is slightly lower). With subsequent visits, the location can be changed;
  • after the steam room it is necessary to take a warm shower. This is necessary in order to wash off the toxins that were released during the visit to the steam room.

After the first entry and shower, you can go to the dressing room, relax a bit and drink hot herbal tea.

Subsequent calls and adding a broom

The second or third run should begin with sprinkling with special infusions of hot stones. So, in order for the steam to be in the optimal amount, specially prepared water is used. The first bucket to be poured is filled with 2 liters of hot water, and about 10 ml is added. eucalyptus tincture with alcohol. In another bucket - extract from mint in the same amount.

Mint is used for stones and eucalyptus is used for walls. Such a mixture of such aromas has a healing effect: by inhaling the "medicine", the body accepts it all, and the blood, which is now circulating intensively, delivers it to its intended purpose. So, eucalyptus eliminates skin problems, while mint soothes, relieves pain and disinfects.

After enough steam has filled the room, brooms can also be used (provided that they are already marked enough).

Now it is better to steam together, and the procedure must be performed in the following order:

  • lie on your stomach with your back up;
  • pat (not hard) with a broom from bottom to top (from legs to shoulders);
  • after each pass throughout the body, increase the force of the blow;
  • after 2-3 approaches, you can add a little fresh foliage to the broom;
  • after the back, repeat the same procedure from the front (the force of patting decreases).

10 minutes on the second, third and subsequent runs is usually enough. But, these rates can vary depending on the state of health. Leave the steam room immediately if you feel tired, dizzy, or suddenly get very hot.

What to do during breaks

In order for the body not to lose a lot of moisture, in between steam rooms, it is imperative to replenish fluid reserves with herbs or tea (other liquids mentioned above are also possible).

Video - Tea in the bath

The time spent in the dressing room should not be less than the time spent in the steam room.

After 3-4 visits to the steam room, you can rub yourself with a hard, pre-prepared mitten during breaks. But before the end of the procedures, you can apply cleansing scrubs and masks to both the body and the face, which are then washed off with a warm shower.

The optimal number of visits to the steam room is considered 5-7 times (less is pointless, more is hard for the body).

Contrast procedures

Diving into the snow, dousing with cold water, or diving into an ice hole are ideal for those who are already seasoned. Beginners are not recommended to expose their bodies to severe stress.

It is necessary to cool down after the steam room, but for those who are not a regular visitor to the bath, and have not even heard of tempering, a pool with room temperature water and a cool shower will do. It is possible to add the notorious diving into a snowdrift only after repeated visits, namely when both the heart and the body get used to the sharp changes in heat / cold.

The final stage

Steam room, drying with a towel, dressing - fundamentally the wrong end of bath procedures. Firstly, the towel should be completely taboo on the last visit to the steam room, since "rubbing" movements will only increase sweating.

Secondly, it is strictly forbidden to go outside until breathing has stabilized, the heart rate has not passed into a state of calm, and the body temperature has not stabilized. Therefore, sit in the dressing room, dry, rest and only then you can leave the walls of the bath. In a hurry, everything will instantly be saturated with sweat, which will reduce all the benefits of the procedures to nothing.

It is believed that after the steam room it is better to relax in the dressing room for 20-30 minutes, drink warm tea, dry off and only then leave the establishment.

It is also important to understand that lethargy, mild dizziness, or nausea are not a natural reaction to steam. If there are such symptoms, it is necessary to leave the steam room with small steps holding on to the wall and try to repeat the procedure after rest. If the second call is accompanied by similar ailments, you should forget about the Russian bath and undergo a medical examination.

Safety regulations

Vodka and a good snack in between steam rooms is tempting, but dangerous. Such a trip to the bathhouse will not only be useless, but can also lead to multiple problems.

The Russian bath does not tolerate if:

  • the interval between a dense meal and entering the steam room is less than 2 hours;
  • the body is saturated with alcohol;
  • cold liquid is taken in between visits to the steam room;
  • while resting, smokes a cigarette.

In order to avoid heatstroke, you should not wet your head before visiting the steam room for the first time, but taking a shower without soap is simply necessary.

The amount of time spent in the steam room, which is 10 minutes at a temperature of 90 degrees and a humidity of 10%, should not exceed the time spent in the dressing room.

Benefit and harm

A bath is a great way to improve health and get rid of many diseases. Even scientists have proven that the effectiveness of a bathing procedure can be compared to a good dosed workout.

Obvious for

The healing properties of steam have been known since ancient times, and this is evidenced by many ancient buildings in which hot heated stones and water were used. Useful properties are based on the alternation of low and high temperatures with non-replaceable high humidity. This leads to active sweating and accelerated blood circulation. Correctly selected brooms enhance the effect.

Undoubted advantages

  1. Relaxation after psychological and physical exertion. Steam relaxes muscles and restores efficiency.
  2. Improving blood circulation.
  3. Restoration of metabolism through the elimination of toxins and toxins with profuse sweating.
  4. Means for eliminating excess weight. High temperatures "melt" the fat layer.
  5. Cosmetic effect. The accelerated blood flow eliminates venous congestion, smoothes wrinkles and enlarges pores, cleansing them.
  6. Cold treatment - sweat helps to remove infections from the body. And if you add a coniferous broom to the bath procedures, then you can strengthen the immune system and neutralize bacteria.
  7. Treatment of radiculitis and back pain by warming up all muscle groups.
  8. Treatment of vegetative-vascular dystonia - a combination of heat and cold strengthens blood vessels and reduce the symptoms of the disease to naught.

The Russian bath is indicated for visiting those who suffer from diseases of the musculoskeletal system, migraines, kidney diseases, high or low blood pressure, chronic respiratory diseases.

A ready-made list of things that must be taken to the bath

This is an indicative list that a guest of a bathhouse should have. If you forget something, a good steam room will always offer you a new one-time analogue. But it's always more enjoyable to use personal belongings! An approximate list of "must have" for a steam room looks like this:

  • broom;
  • clean underwear;
  • bathrobe;
  • large towel;
  • felt headdress;
  • washable rubber slippers;
  • a sheet or "pareo" for a bath;
  • shampoo;
  • shower gel;
  • drinks: still mineral water, tea, herbal decoction.

You can also add a stiff mitten and a washcloth to the list. Lovers of bathing beauty ceremonies will benefit from scrubs, clay, creams to combine relaxation with.

How to take a steam bath? 6 steps you should know

1.Literate preparation is the basis of the best sauna rest. We definitely take a warm shower. Do not scrub your skin with a loofah or scrub to avoid removing the protective layer. It is better to wash in the shower so as not to wet your hair - a wet head can result in serious overheating, and you don't need these problems! You came to the bathhouse for benefits, not for a "headache"!

2. The first call is the most important. It will help the body adapt to humidity and high temperatures. To begin with, take a place on the bottom shelf, after which you can move higher. The best location is lying on a shelf. The average duration of the first visit to the steam room is from 5 to 10 minutes.

Do not rush to climb to the upper shelves - moving 50 cm higher, thereby increasing the temperature of the effect of steam on the body by 20 degrees. It is always better to lie in a bath, because in a sitting position, the run-up between the temperature in the area of \u200b\u200bthe legs and the crown of the head can be about 50 degrees: in the legs - 50 ° C, and in the area of \u200b\u200bthe head - all 100 ° C.

3. is practiced already in the second run, when the body has adapted and "understood" the atmosphere. Below we will tell you in detail how to use the main bath accessory, what to look for when choosing. The time spent in the steam room with a broom massage can be increased up to 20 minutes.

It is better to steam the broom a couple of hours before the start of the sauna session, but there is also a more "urgent" way - to dip the "bather's weapon" into a tub of hot water for a few minutes and shake it off.

4. Take breaks between visits. This will allow you to "take a breath" and give the body the necessary respite. The main thing is to make up for the loss of moisture that came out with sweat. We drink tea, mineral water, relax, rest in body and mind.

It is important! In between sessions, drink tea, but it should be just warm, but not scalding hot.

5. Gradual completion of "communication with the steam". Before the last visit, the body can be rubbed with a mitten to help open the pores. This is especially true for the fair sex, who afterwards can safely transcend beauty procedures in a bathhouse.

6. Temperature contrast. After exposure to the body of hot steam, it is important to cool the body: with a cool shower, swimming in the pool, dousing with water from a tub, diving into an ice hole or rubbing off with snow (we choose the method, depending on the season and personal preferences).

TOP 6 mistakes made by both beginners and regulars of the Russian bath

  1. After leaving the steam room, the person takes a lying position. That's right - at first to walk a little, and only then take a position, sitting or half-sitting. Also, do not move quickly - you have already "loaded" the heart and blood vessels, you need a healthy respite.
  2. Cosmetics before visiting the steam room. In the steam room itself and before entering it, it is better not to apply scrubs, creams and other products. No one knows how the cosmetic composition will behave under the influence of high temperatures. First we take a steam bath - then we pamper the body with beauty procedures.
  3. Soaring in the bath through force and wear. These sacrifices are useless! And do not chase high temperatures, prolonged stay in the steam room, "wear and tear" rest. Listen to your body! Even if after three minutes in the steam room you feel that your head is spinning, your limbs go numb, come out!
  4. Alcohol and sauna. Have pity on your blood vessels, which will expand under the influence of temperature. And alcohol can play a cruel joke. We will not intimidate you with scary stories about the outcome of the bath and alcohol - just believe me, it is not as safe as it might seem!
  5. To the bathhouse - without a headdress. The steam can cause severe heatstroke to those who neglect headgear. If you forgot your felt hat, you can tie a turban out of a towel.
  6. People are in a hurry to get out of the bath. One of the most common mistakes is to immediately leave the bathhouse (in order to save time, so that you can quickly get home, take the subway, etc.). You need to leave the steam room when blood pressure has returned to normal, body temperature has stabilized. Haste can negate all the benefits of a bath visit.

How long do you need to take a steam bath in time?

The optimal number of visits to the steam room is from 5 to 7 times. More is already hard for the body.

The average duration of the first call is up to 10 minutes.

The second, third and subsequent runs can last 15 minutes.

The approximate duration of rest between visits is 20-30 minutes.

It will take about 2 - 2.5 hours to steam well and steam thoroughly. Plan your vacation, taking enough time for a leisurely, high-quality and complete relaxation. And you can find a suitable institution right now by going to the best baths in St. Petersburg.

The frequency of visits to the bathhouse is about 1 time per week.

Which broom should you choose? We select a bath accessory for your request

  • Have problems with ENT organs? Do you want to simultaneously pamper your skin with a toning procedure? Then the best choice is a birch broom.
  • Too oily skin? Profuse rashes on the face and all over the body? Blood pressure needs to be stabilized. In this case, your choice is an oak broom.
  • If the task is to strengthen the immune system, to recover from viral diseases, say "yes" to a linden broom. Also, bath procedures with a linden broom will help to cope with migraines and dizziness.
  • An ideal broom for girls is made of bird cherry. It heals wounds (especially after acne), makes the skin soft, smooth and velvety. You will feel the effect after just one session!
  • Are you suffering from sciatica and arthritis? Then your best friend is a nettle broom. If you have no experience of massage with such an accessory, it is better to contact a professional bather.
  • In the season of allergies, exacerbation of diseases of the ENT organs, a reliable assistant to a person is a eucalyptus broom. A pleasant bonus is a wonderful aroma that will fill the steam room during the massage.
  • Are you worried about limb swelling? Go to the bathhouse with a fir broom. It will help remove all excess fluid from the body. Fir also has powerful anti-inflammatory properties.

The art of steaming with a broom - the rules are important, which will be effective the first time!

We begin to "wield" a broom with light pats from top to bottom. We move gradually so as not to scald the body and gradually prepare for a more dynamic massage.

Apply the broom for a few seconds to specific parts of the body: face, stomach, back, and feet. This is a ready-made secret of proper heating without overheating.

We walk with a broom around the body with light slamming movements. If it's very hot, decrease the amplitude.

We alternate stroking and patting with a broom, while the movements may already be more intense.

After the broom massage, you should stay on the bench for a while (about 30 seconds), and then leave the steam room.

Three exclusive techniques for sauna massage with brooms:

1. "Stretching", when the attendant works with two brooms, presses them to the lower back and spreads them in different directions. An excellent practice for relieving joint and muscle pain.

2. "Compression technique", when a specialist works again with a pair of brooms. Circular motions "drives" steam to certain parts of the body, be it the sides, back, buttocks, arms.

3. "Lash" with one or two brooms from the crown of the head to the tips of the fingers, with an emphasis on the lumbar spine (especially useful in sciatica).

During the massage, you should feel how the heat penetrates deeper and deeper, sweating intensifies, pleasant warmth passes through the whole body - from the fingertips to the crown.

If you follow the advice of experts and your own feelings, the procedure will bring real benefits for health, youth and beauty!
