The best car seat 9 36. Blog ›How to choose a baby car seat

In Russia, there should no longer be substandard child seats: according to the requirements of the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union, from January 1, 2015, all of them must comply with the European Rule ECE R44 / 04. Already not bad! But it is - according to the rules. And we will test them by our new method. Which chair is better? We checked 16 holding devices of the so-called group 1 (for children weighing from 9 to 18 kg), and, along with the usual chairs, we had one frameless seat and two “alternative” options - a booster and an adapter.

Sit down children!

We were particularly interested in chairs made in Russia. For the nine years that have passed since the previous large-scale test Autoreview, we finally have plants that produce real child seats. For example, the Siger Transformer Prime chair for groups 1-2-3 produced by Ryazan Force LLC is similar to the French seat of the Nania Beline SP: quality-looking plastic, simple fastening with a standard (car) belt, folding design that allows, when the child grows up, use pillow like a booster. True, the two other Russian samples caused less optimism: this is the Kostroma FEST adapter, supplemented now with a “harness” for the baby’s feet, and the frameless Berry chair manufactured by TRADE LLC from the Ulyanovsk Region.

But the Smeshariki armchair is a surprise! - done not here, but in China. As well as inexpensive "English" chair Happy Baby Voyager. And the Chinese seat of the Babyton LB-513 can be found in stores and under other names: Pilot, Food-Food, Mishutka ... I saw the last in Togliatti myself.

According to the Federal Law of July 23, 2013 No. 196-F3, the penalty for violating the rules for transporting children is 3,000 rubles.

By the way, after wandering around the shops, I came to the conclusion that the share of Russian products is still vanishingly small: almost all low-cost “belt” chairs are made in five or six factories in China, and then they are assigned different names, sometimes using “cross-pollination” ". For example, the booster and the chair of the same Kenga brand are made in China in two different factories.

Among the seats, fixed by a car belt, the honor of eminent manufacturers will be defended by the German seats King King II LS and Recaro Young Sport, as well as the Japanese seat Carmate Kurutto NT2. From the seats where the child is held by the “safety table”, we chose the pedigree Cybex Pallas 2-fix and Кiddy Рhoenixfix Рro 2. And the effectiveness of the isofix locks, supplemented by the “anchor” fastening of Top Tether, we will check with the example of the Romer Trifix and Casualplay Q-Retraktor Fix seats.

Preparations are underway for a frontal strike: a reinforced fragment of the body of a popular serial station wagon, Lada Kalina (left) and the impact cylinder of a small AvtoVAZ test catapult (right).

This time, Avtodeti's company joined the project. Besides the fact that it is a large multi-brand dealer of child seats, the site is also a serious information resource on child safety. We agreed that the Avtodeti will provide us with chairs, and we will deal with everything related to the tests.

For the purchase of the chair is best to go along with your baby, and it is on the car on which it will be used. Make sure that the child is comfortable to sit, and it is convenient for you to install the chair and control the “harness”. The best security is provided by chairs with Isofix fastening and Top Tether anchor belt, or with emphasis in the bottom of the car.

But an important innovation test base: in the laboratory of passive safety AvtoVAZ appeared modern children's dummies Q-series, so now you can measure the acceleration of the pelvis and - most importantly! - load on the neck. Our fearless and passionless assistant was the Q3 dummy, a “child”, 98.5 cm tall and weighing 15 kg, which should fit in the chairs of group 1 (from 9 to 18 kg). It should, he should, but the adjustment range of the internal straps on the Kenga YB 704 and Happy Baby Voyager seats was not enough - and to fix the dummy I had to use a car belt. But this is forgivable: the seats are universal, and the instructions allow the car to be fastened with a regular belt of a child weighing 15 kg or more.

Three accelerometers are installed in the head of the Q3 dummy, a dozen more sensors are mounted in the “spine” that measure the forces and moments acting on the lower and upper parts of the neck, and there are 28 sensors in total in the abdominal cavity: they are not available only for Q6 and Q10 dummies that mimic older children, at the age of six and ten, respectively.

Like nine years ago, for testing we will use a fragment of the station wagon Lada Kalina (it is rigidly fixed on the trolley), and we will carry out the strikes with the help of the so-called “small catapult”. The system of rubber harnesses shoots the cart like a slingshot - and it crashes into the “heel” of the hydraulic cylinder.

The best security is provided by chairs, with the Isofix mount and Top Tether anchor belt (or with an emphasis in the bottom of the car).

And the most important difference from the previous tests is the new method. Together with AvtoVAZ specialists, we spent a year on its development: from now on it includes not only frontal, but also side impact. And both blows are “tougher” than with the current Euro NCAP crash tests! The fact is that in the past decade, many child seats in crash-tested cars received a maximum of points from Euro NCAP experts - and the differences between good and very good seats seemed to cease to exist. And our task is to identify the difference. Therefore, we have increased the momentum for a frontal strike. If during our recent crash tests of Grants and Kalina, broken at a speed of 64 km / h, the peak body slowdown reached 33.9 g, then for our tests of child seats we raised the overload to 38 g. It is as if the same Grant or Kalina crashed into a deformable barrier not at 64 km / h, but at about 68-70 km / h. For the side impact, we chose a slowdown of 31 g instead of evronkapovskikh 26 g.

It was clear that there were fears that with such harsh tests, no one of our chairs, installed in the direction of travel, could be secured - the load on the “child” would be higher than when installed against the turn.

The better the fixation of the chair, the higher the safety. Therefore, when installing the “belt” seat, press as much as possible into the back sofa and only then tighten the belt strongly, starting with the waist strap and ending with the diagonal one.

The developed sidewalls and the high head restraint are indispensable for a child seat: they will save the baby in the event of a collision from behind and with a side impact.

At first we weighed the chairs. The lightest among the full-size ones (adapter, booster and frameless rag do not count) is the Chinese seat Kenga (3.45 kg), and the most massive is the Japanese Carmate (12.8 kg). But in our case, the mass says only about whether it will be easy to carry the armchair. Safety is much more dependent on compliance with the recommendations for mounting the seat. And here we have already taken into account the clarity and clarity of the markings, the presence of control indicators and locks that preclude improper installation (you can read about the wrong pages on the armchair on the following pages). The risk to make a mistake when installing the chair was estimated in points from zero to ten (the higher the score, the lower the risk).

When testing with a side impact (photo on the left), the front seat is not needed, so the bracket with a speed camera will take its place. For a frontal impact (on the right), the camera moved to the left side, and the Kalina body fragment was additionally mounted on a trolley with two stop braces, since the peak overload is higher: 38 g versus 30 g during a side impact.

The inner straps must be at least 25 mm wide and have wide lining on the shoulder straps. The belt lock should be compact, covered with a soft pad on the back side and have a recessed button.

Together with VAZ specialists and Avtodeti company expert Sergey Kerzhentsev, we agreed that it was almost impossible to make a mistake by fixing the Carmate and Rome King II LS chairs with a car belt, as well as locking the kiddy chairs with Isofix-brackets, where the child is locked. table, - nine points out of ten. And the most difficult thing (three points) is to understand the abundance of the straps of the FEST adapter and the frameless chair Berry: the probability of error is as great as when fixing the seats of Babyton and Kenga YB 704. It was not without curiosities. We couldn’t put an additional fixer-clothespin on the belt that comes with Smeshariki and Siger seats: in Kalina there was simply no room for this fixer between the standard belt lock and the armchair body! From early disqualification Smesharikov and Siger rescued sales consultants who advise buyers ... to fasten the seat without additional fixation of the belt.

I tightened the inner straps with a calibrated effort, the same for all seats. And the expert of the Avtodeti company Sergey Kerzhentsev (on the left) then also checked the tightness with the help of a simple everyday rule: under the diagonal branches of the belt should not pass more than two fingers.

The adjustment range of the inner straps should allow them to be adjusted specifically for your child: the shoulder branches should be held just above the shoulders. If the armchair is bought “for growth”, the reserve for adjustment must be at least 10 cm.

What misfortunes lie in wait for a child sitting in his seat if the car gets into an accident? With a frontal impact, the most dangerous are the loads on the neck. Muscles are still weak, and the head is already heavy! The Q3 dummy allows you to measure the forces and moments acting on both the lower and upper neck. But since the Euro NCAP committee does not yet regulate either the bending moment or the stretching force of the neck for three-year-old children, we, like during the test of adapters in Germany, decided to rely on the criteria adopted for adults. And it turned out that the absolutely safe “adult” threshold for a bending moment of 42 Nm was slightly exceeded only when using the FEST adapter (42.5 Nm).

Use the headrest of the car for additional fixation is useless. Even the seat of Nania, where Kalina's headrest hooked on the chair best of all, the back jumped out from under it. After each strike, we changed the seat belt. And after testing isofix-chairs - also the back of the back sofa, which was damaged (photo on the right).

When choosing a new or used car, make sure that it has not only Isofix brackets, but also fastenings for the anchor belt Top Tether.

So we will judge the safety of the cervical vertebrae by the stretching force. The best was the Kiddy chair - less than 2 kN with a safe limit of 2.7 kN. In this framework still fit the seat Carmate, Cybex and Siger. The unpleasant surprise was that this exam failed the expensive King King II LS chair, as well as the seat of the Kenga YB 704 and Happy Baby Voyager, as well as all the devices that allow the car to be fastened with a regular car strap. When using an adapter, booster or frameless armchair, the nod of the dummy was such that the effort went beyond the “red” 3.3 kN.

Move the front seat forward as far as it will go, and place its back vertically. This reduces the risk of a baby hitting the front seat back in the event of a head-on collision.

The same products can hardly save the child’s head from damage. Despite the lack of hard contact with the front seat back, head slowing exceeded the “red” threshold of 100 g - consider that a strong concussion is guaranteed! The same fate will befall the child in the Casualplay chair: here, during the strike, the flimsy mechanism of tilting the “bowl” collapsed, the cradle rushed forward along with the dummy - and the “child” pressed its head against the front seat with force.

Due to the destruction of the internal mechanisms during a frontal impact, the Casualplay Q-Retraktor Fix chair threatens the child not only with a strong blow to the head on the front seat, but also with broken legs caught in a trap.

If possible, place the armchair in the center of the back - according to statistics, this is the least vulnerable area of the car in various collisions. If the Isofix attachment is only in extreme places, mount the child seat on the right.

And, as in the case of neck loads, the kiddy, Cybex, Carmate and Romer Trifix armchairs excelled: slowing the head less secure 87 g. The load on the pelvis slightly exceeded 100 g only in the Babyton chair, but the basin, thank God, is not the head. The main thing - to avoid the dangerous effect of diving, which can cause damage to the abdomen. And here, as shown by high-speed video shots, the frameless Berry chair poses the greatest risk: during the strike, it simply broke - the belt slipped from the hips to the chest. In this case, the slowdown of the pelvis amounted to non-dangerous 70.2 g.

Now - about breast overload. In the borders of the "green corridor" (up to 50 g for three-year-olds), only the Siger and Cybex seats fit. And the “red” mark of 65 g, along with the Berry seats, Casualplay and both Kenga products, crossed even the Rome King II LS chair.

We measured the chest overload and on impact from the side, and this time the border of the “red” zone was extended by 15 g, to 80 g. The fact is that a side impact is more transient, and the danger from overloading is directly proportional to the duration of their impact. But the Kiddy, Kenga, Nania and Rome King II LS chairs did not fit into this limit. Despite the fact that these chairs protect the baby’s head when struck from the side (acceleration did not exceed the “green” 72 g), the shape of their sidewalls is poorly suited to protect the chest in Kalina.

The seat, fixed by isofix-fastener and anchor belt, upon impact provides the smallest forward reach and optimum kinematics of the nod, reducing the loads on the head and neck (Romemer Trifix). In an unpretentious seat (Babyton LB-513), fastened with a regular belt, there is a higher risk for the legs due to more movement forward, and the child’s nod is stronger because of the worse stability of the chair itself.

Be sure to try on a child seat to the back seat of your car or ask the seller about it. Loose fit to the back or cushion threatens to strong dynamic oscillations of the chair upon impact.

Carmate and Happy Baby armchairs with their too rigid sidewalls of the headrests did not save either head or chest (overloads exceeded 90 g), so the small bending moment acting on the neck (maximum 49.4 Nm at a dangerous threshold of 57 Nm) is poor consolation. Especially since all the rest of the chair load on the neck when struck from the side "green" or budding "yellow".

But at the non-chairs ... We simply did not allow them to be tested with a side impact: we feared for the safety of an expensive dummy. In addition, our tests in Germany have shown that even with a weaker side impact, neither the booster nor the adapter will save the “kid” from hitting the door with a head.

We calculated the final rating as follows. The weight of the results of both frontal and side impacts is 35% each. The marks themselves were put on the following principle: if the overload within the “green” zone is ten points, and if it exceeds the “red” limit, it is zero. And the remaining 30% - for reducing the risk of both improper installation of the chair itself, and fixing the child in it.

And worst of all, the baby will be protected by "other means." For example, the frameless chair, which broke during the impact and allowed not only monstrous overloads, but also strong diving under the belt (Berry).

The failure of all "other means", including the booster, did not come as a surprise to us. And it was unpleasantly surprised that only inexpensive chairs were made a little better - those that are fixed on the car seat by its regular belt and lack the mechanisms of its reach. But they, unlike boosters and adapters, somehow protect children when they hit them from the side.

Discouraged and expensive "belt" chairs. The seat of the King King II LS overloaded the child’s chest in both side and frontal impacts. Model Carmate Kurutto NT2 was dangerous when hit from the side, and during a frontal hit at the seat broke the emphasis in the bottom of the car. There are complaints about the Recaro Young Sport seat: with a side impact, the belt retainer was unbuttoned - and the chest overload was close to critical.

Even idols are fragile! Due to the fact that the mannequin’s hands (no sensors in them) lay for some time in an unheated warehouse, polyvinyl chloride lost its elasticity, and during frontal attacks with the Kenga booster, the right elbow collapsed, and with the Romer Trifix’s armchair, the left one. The benefit of the "baby" was "cured" by replacing broken joints with metal ones.

The Casualplay Q-Retraktor Fix chair did not live up to expectations, even despite the isofix locks and the “anchor” belt: the internal mechanisms simply collapsed.

We will not recommend a chair with a Kiddy Рhoenixfix Рro 2 table (by the way, it was this product that received the maximum safety rating from the ADAC club): the results of a side impact are failures.

And for my child, I would not be stingy and bought either Cybex Pallas 2-fix or Romemer Trifix. Yes, it's expensive, but it was these chairs that provided the best protection. Especially since the isofix is now attached to almost every new car, including Grants and Kalina in the basic versions.

In terms of congestion (31 g in peak!), Our side impact simulates the future Euro NCAP crash test of 2016. For greater realism, we used a real car door, rather than a flat plywood shield, as in tests using the methods of ECE R129 and ADAC. Only the glass was dismantled: according to the vazovtsev’s assurances, at Kalina’s side crash test, it always crumbles even before the mannequins nod.

The most expensive chair was the most difficult, but not the safest. Swivel mechanism "bowl", facilitating the landing and fastening the child - it's great. But the heavy seat is fastened in a car with a low-missed seat belt - fixing is extremely weak without a docking mechanism. During a side impact, the chair was wound through the cabin with the largest amplitude, and therefore the extreme loads on the head and chest did not come as a surprise. In the event of a frontal impact, the injury criteria were small, but the emphasis in the bottom of the car could not stand it and bent. This chair needs an anchor belt and isofix locks, but this option for the Kurutto NT2, alas, is not provided.

The strong support in the bottom (left), alas, is weakened by technological holes. With a frontal impact, he could not stand the inertia of a massive chair and broke down. To prevent a “belt” seat with a side impact from hanging like a pendulum, like Kurutto NT2, the belt should cling to the backrest as high as possible and reach with a special mechanism (right photo).

Judging by the points scored, the Russian product turned out to be the best among the relatively accessible universal seats of the groups 1/2/3. Despite the significant deformation of the door upholstery during a side impact and a significant outreach of the seat forward in the front (movement could reduce the additional belt retainer, but in the Kalina cabin it cannot be installed), the "orange" threat level was recorded only due to head overload in 81 7 g in a side impact. However, if we had left the glass in the doorway (or put a plywood shield instead, as is often done with similar tests), the result would most likely be worse: the video shows that the head of the dummy flew out of the headrest embraces. But we have no formal reason to lower the assessment.

This stamp (photo on the left) is not a fiction: unlike Smeshariki's seat made in China, the Siger brand armchairs and boosters are made in Russia. In the photo on the right, according to the instructions, it was necessary to install a retainer-clip at the belt buckle. But in Kalina and Grant there is simply no room for him.

In appearance, this chair with the “security table” is not very different from the Cybex seat, but it costs one and a half times cheaper. You find the explanation by taking both chairs in your hands: Kiddy is almost twice as light! In the case of a frontal impact, the lower inertia of the chair did not give a gain: the loads on the head and neck are small, but the acceleration of the chest of 57 g raises the threat level to “orange”. And with a side impact on the chest, the “red” 82.2 g acted already! That's because the headrest is made entirely of foam: its “ear” is broken - and most of the load was transferred to the chest.

Despite the highest marks for safety from the ADAC club and the highest authority of the Kiddy company (these chairs are often used when testing cars according to Euro NCAP standards), we would caution against buying the Kiddy Phoenixfix Pro 2 seat.

The headrest of the Kiddy chair is made entirely of foam and with a strong blow from the side it breaks, leaving the child’s head without protection in case of secondary shocks. Just like in the Cybex chair, Kiddy’s isofix-plastic fasteners are not designed for a bounce. But there is no problem in this: the child’s belt is held by the car’s belt through the security table (photo on the right).

The Spanish top model with inertial (!) Internal straps, moreover with isofix fasteners and an “anchor” belt, judging by the ADAC tests, should have appeared no worse than the seats of Romer and Cybex. This was clearly indicated by the price: Casualplay is only slightly more accessible than the leaders. Alas, in both blows, the tilt adjustment mechanisms of the “bowl” were scattered, and with them the hopes for a good result. And if with a side impact it almost did not affect the defense (the developed sidewalls of the chair protected the baby), then with a frontal impact - drama. The “child” strongly attached his head and legs to the back of the front seat, and on the rebound, the armchair was “broken” by the legs and feet in the trap. For more than twenty thousand rubles, you can find a safer chair.

The “weak link” of the Casualplay chair is the bowl tilt adjustment mechanism (left): it collapsed in both types of tests. In the photo on the right, the casual inertial straps of the Casualplay chair increase the child’s comfort due to greater freedom of movement. But in terms of security, this is a dubious decision: the straps are free from preload and are worse than traditional, “static” ones, they fix the baby during the impact.

Recaro chairs beckon the children and their parents with a rich-looking and most pleasant-to-touch upholstery, beautiful reliefs and the magic of a brand fanned by autosport glory. And when all this is offered at a price twice as low as the isofix-chairs of other famous manufacturers, the hand itself reaches for the wallet.

Unfortunately, the fastening scheme with a seatbelt without the mechanism of its reachy does not provide adequate protection: with a frontal impact, the level of threat to the neck and chest is “orange”, and with a side crash test, the acceleration of the chest is close to a critical 80 g. Moreover, the design of the latch of the automobile belt is such that, when struck from the side, it is ready to unfasten from the slightest contact with the door. Perhaps you should not be tempted.

Left: the insides of the Recaro chair are connected, including long screws. Real German quality? Right: during a side impact, the latch of the automobile belt opened the throat. No wonder: the tongue protruding to the outside is ready to unfasten the retainer even from a slight touch.

The Chinese chair with a tender Russian name is frightening with rough details like a massive metal guide for a car belt, screwed to a plastic back without washers with a thin M6 bolt. The gasket under the lock of the inner straps is thin, which threatens to injure the genitals. And the seat itself is poorly attached to the rear seat of Kalina: there is a gap of about 4 cm under the front edge of the cushion. But the “trace” of the belt is clearly marked, it is easy to fasten the seat. A load on the head and chest in both strokes, though great, but still does not exceed the "red" limits. The fastening of the belt guide, which caused concern, as well as other elements of the chair, withstood the load - so there are no confirmed reasons for concern, as well as for optimism.

In Smesharikov, as is the case with the chair Siger, the latch-clothespin on the belt can not be installed. In the photo on the right, the upper point of the belt fastening is bent from a thick metal bar and naively bolted. Not aesthetic? But cheap, reliable and practical.

King II LS - this is the same "belt" model of the company Romer, which we had on the tests nine years ago, only modernized. Alas, the chances of strongly pinching fingers, dropping the folding "bowl" on the ground, are still great.

Despite the solid appearance and thoughtful design, the chair was unable to fully protect the baby in severe accidents modeled by our new method. In the event of a frontal impact, the neck is stretched, stretched by a 3.4 kN “red” force. And the overload of the chest was too high in both “collisions”. And this is not an accident! In the crash test of Kalina using the Euro NCAP method, the load on the chest in the King II LS chair went beyond the bounds of the green threshold, although there were less overloads.

Only in the King II LS chair, with a side impact from the dummy on the rebound, a leg flew off. For a live child, this would mean a high likelihood of severe dislocation. Fastening the Romer King II LS is easy: you fasten the belt, pass it through the marked grooves and lower the folding cradle. During the last operation, do not try to press the seat into the back sofa or tighten the belt: pinch your fingers!

Origin from Hong Kong seems to be just a ploy. Chairs Babyton LB-513 and their clones with Russian names (Mishutka, Pilot, Food-Eating, etc.) are made in China. Passing a car belt through the holes in the back of the armchair is more difficult than with other “belt” models, and the correct trajectory of the belt is vaguely marked - the highest probability of error! With the wrong fastening, it threatens the child first of all with head injuries. But if the chair is fixed correctly, the level of protection is acceptable: an overload of the chest is alarmingly brown, but not “red.” If it were not difficult to install, the Babyton chair would have been the best among the Chinese products we tested.

When using the pillow as a booster, be sure to use the sling (photo left) to adjust the position of the diagonal belt of the belt. Right photo: Familiar construction! Seven years ago, we already experienced this chair in Germany. But then it was called Bimbo, not Babyton.

Inexpensive French chair stands out against the background of Russian-Chinese products with presentable and pleasant to the touch upholstery, as well as with a powerful headrest with developed sidewalls - it protects the head well with a side impact. And therefore it is doubly offensive that the design of the back of the chair weakly protects the chest: overload exceeded the dangerous 80 g.

In a frontal strike, the threat level to the neck is "orange." And in terms of clarity of markings and ease of installation, Nania leads among budget seats - along with the Russian Saiger. But the failure of the side impact puts the French chair in one row with the Chinese and does not allow to recommend it even to those who are constrained in the means.

The openwork inside of the headrest of the Nania chair (left) cracked during a side impact, but fulfilled its mission with honor: the head overload was low. Like most universal armchairs of the group 1-2-3, the seat of the Nania Beline SP can be disassembled - and the cushion can be used as a booster (right photo).

High-quality English chair for less than 6000 rubles? So we didn’t believe it - and, looking in the documents, we found out that the Voyager was not made in England at all, but in China, at the Jiangsu Lucky Baby Safety System branch factory. Unfortunately, a child in this armchair will be lucky only if his height is less than 90 cm: then he can be fastened with internal straps. We also had to fix the dummy with a height of 98.5 cm using a car belt. With a frontal impact, everything is not bad, but with a side “adult” belt threatens to cut the neck. The plump upholstery was instantly washed out - and it turned out that the configuration and rigidity of the plastic sidewalls were chosen poorly: the head and chest experienced the most dangerous overloads - more than 90 g. It is better to refrain from buying.

The back and pillow are connected in such a simple way (left). During the frontal impact rivets just vomited out of plastic! We with VAZ engineers checked everything three times (right). In particular, the height of the internal straps: they should not be lower than shoulder level!

Kenga YB 704 (Dangerous!)

  Final Score: 1.05

At first glance, this Chinese chair is no worse than the others. Upon closer inspection, it turned out that the adjustment range of the internal straps is not enough - just like the Happy Baby seat. And being fastened by a car belt, the child is protected very badly. Overloading of the head with frontal impact and chest with side over 100 g! The worst of the full seats. And the low price is no excuse.

A patch with the ECE R44 / 04 badge, an intelligible pattern of fastening the chair and the child in it, depending on the weight of the latter, is all the same as for “pedigree” products. The mannequin pressed its arm and shoulder against the door more than in any of the tested seats: the deformation of the upholstery was greatest.

Kenga LB 311 Booster (Danger!)

Formally, you can not put small children in the booster. But they plant it, especially in taxis! What does it threaten with? With a punch on the side, everything is clear: just like on our tests in Romer's laboratory, the kid will firmly attach his head to the door. And even if the car is equipped with safety curtains, they will not help a child: the head will miss the pillow. And in the event of a frontal impact, a wrong fit of the belt causes severe stresses. With the Kenga booster, all the injury criteria exceeded the “red” limit.

Never transport babies in boosters! Neither their own nor others!

One of the few advantages of the Chinese booster: a plastic diagonal strap guide withstood the blow (left). In the event of a frontal strike, the nod is such that the stretching of the neck, the overload of the head and chest were higher than critical.

The cheapest in our test and, with the connivance of the traffic police, the most common in the regions "other means" to avoid a fine for the improper transportation of children. Now, however, traffic cops at all levels are declining from adapters, calling them dangerous. But FEST is also improving: in the seven years that have passed after our tests of adapters in Germany, a system of straps covering the child’s legs has appeared, which is designed to eliminate the effect of diving.

The adapter has a certificate of compliance with Rule ECE R44 / 04. We have suspicions that the phony one: the European certificate was withdrawn from the FEST back in 2013, and the tests conducted at NAMI only confirmed the danger of this product. Another proof is our frontal impact: the load on the neck and head is beyond! Although it is worth noting that the "harness" works - and there was no diving effect. But this does not negate the main thing: adapters have no place in your car!

The FEST adapter, if you believe the packaging, is already marked with three gold medals at trade show salons and even the “Best for Children” quality mark. An additional system of straps covering the legs (right), saves the child from the effect of diving under the belt of the car.

Adherents of the idea of frameless chairs claim that a similar design is being developed even in Volvo. Although Professor Lotta Jacobson, who has been responsible for children's safety in Volvo for many years, has never heard of this. She, a supporter of sitting babies in chairs, installed against the move, would hardly have thought to bring to mind such a "diaper", tied to the back of the back of the sofa.

A Berry “armchair” stitched in the Ulyanovsk region, which corresponds to ECE R44 / 03 for papers, broke into flaps on impact! The benefit of the "child" still kept the staff seat belt of the car - and we did not have to blush in front of the VAZ employees because of the damaged dummy. But the diving was monstrous: the belt slid on the baby's chest. And the load is such that the chances of survival are negligible. Such "chairs" should be prohibited at the legislative level.

Reliable mount? We doubt. In the photo on the right, the inertia during the impact to shreds broke off the frameless Berry chair.

Certification: Russian version

Denis Zagarin

Deputy Director General of NAMI and Director of the Test Center (Dmitrovsky Automobile Polygon), President of the Association of Automotive Engineers, expert of the UN World Forum on the harmonization of requirements for the design of vehicles.

Child restraints in Russia are subject to mandatory certification since 2007. From January 1, 2015, all child seats sold in our country must comply with the Technical Regulations of the Customs Union, which refers to ECE R44 / 04. In other words, we now have the same requirements for child restraints as in other countries of the 1958 Geneva Agreement, including in the countries of the European Union. Most importantly, the technical regulations will soon be supplemented with the ECE R129 Rule, which also provides side impact tests.

It remains only to convince the traffic police and the government to remove from the paragraph 22.9 of the Rules of the Road an absurd addition that permits to fasten children with the help of “other means”. By the way, in 2013, the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Working Party on Passive Safety has already made its decision on adapters and other “sets of straps and guides” - that is, it cannot be considered child restraints, and all previously issued certificates have been revoked .

A certificate of conformity with ECE R44 / 04 or GOST R 41.44-2005, alas, is not a guarantee of security. For their issuance in Russia accredited more than a dozen organizations that do not have the proper equipment for testing child seats.

For our part, we will make maximum efforts so that already this year an amendment will be introduced to the traffic rules that would put “other means” out of the law.

Yet the main problem related to the safety of child restraints in Russia is not the legislative framework per se. The trouble is in issuing a large number of accreditations, that is, granting one or another organization the right to conduct tests of such devices. Despite the fact that in Russia only NAMI and AvtoVAZ have the equipment necessary to conduct such tests, more than a dozen organizations have been authorized to check child restraints! You do not need to be a professional to understand: there is no question of any full-fledged trials.

Another problem is that even chairs certified in Europe (within the framework of the 1958 Geneva Agreement, Russia recognizes the results of tests carried out abroad) do not always fully meet the requirements of our technical regulations - for example, in terms of components or supporting documentation. In 2011, we began to conduct regular spot checks of children's retention devices purchased at retail, including frontal crash tests under rule ECE R44 / 04. For four years, 55 samples have been tested - and inconsistencies in the instructions and markings have been found even in the chairs of famous brands. And all in all we have rejected 36 of 55 products for this parameter. But even worse is that 26 of 55 samples, as shown by our crash tests, did not meet safety requirements. And this, I emphasize, in the presence of certificates. Of course, fake.

Techniques

The most well-known independent tests of child restraint systems are those carried out by the German auto club ADAC and in the framework of the Plus Test program of the Swedish VTI road research institute. How do these techniques relate to Autoreview tests and Euro NCAP crash tests, which are carried out not on acceleration trucks, but on real cars?

The energy and, consequently, the severity of the impact with the “carriage” test is determined not by the speed before the collision, as in the case of a car crash test, but by the amount of deceleration and pulse duration. For example, in the event of a frontal impact on the ECE R44 / 04 and ECE R129 certification rules (the procedure is the same for both rules), a deceleration of more than 20 g should last at least 15 milliseconds, and the peak should not exceed 28 g. This is “softer” than with the impact of ADAC and VTI (Plus Test), where an overload of more than 20 g should last three times longer, at least 45 ms. At the same time, the Swedish test is more demanding than the German one - even though the peak slowdown is less (35 g instead of 37 g): the overload duration is more than 30 g, according to VTI standards, is 37 against 13 milliseconds. In our tests, the deceleration above 30 g lasts 17 ms, and its peak - 38 g. That is approximately in the middle between the ADAC and Plus Test conditions. This is noticeably "tougher" than the overloads experienced by a three-year-old mannequin, seated in a child seat behind the driver during crash tests under Euro NCAP or ARCAP programs. For example, the deceleration of the left threshold of Kalina was 33.9 g, and the overload of more than 30 g lasted only 10 ms. Therefore, with our bench tests, the load on the mannequin in the same seat King King II LS was higher than in Kalina: a three-millisecond peak of head slowing was 88.3 g against 80.5 g, and the maximum chest deceleration was 67.8 g instead of 52.3 g.

A side blow is not yet mandatory for certification. And the i-Size standard (ECE R129) is advisory in nature and prescribes an acceleration pulse (the test is carried out when the car accelerates) at 11 g for 60 ms. According to a similar technique, seven years ago, we tested alternative child restraints in the laboratory of the firm Romer (AP No6, 2008). Now we with AvtoVAZ specialists have gone the other way. We took Kalina's body overload data during a side crash test using the current Euro NCAP method - and increased the momentum towards tightening in accordance with changes in Euro NCAP 2016, when the weight of the car crashing into the car at 50 km / h will be increased from 950 to 1300 kg Our impulse turned out to be slightly shorter than according to the ECE R129 Rule (50 ms instead of 60 ms), but the overload itself is three times higher: 31 g at the peak. It seems that our side impact tests are the most demanding!

Body deceleration charts for frontal impact:

Error price

According to statistics, half of the seats, fixed with a regular seat belt, are fixed incorrectly. What threatens even a minor error?

When installing the Babyton chair, I held the lap belt of the vehicle’s belt not under the “ear” of the seat cushion, but above it. Blow - and a chair with a poorly fixed right corner turns to the left. The forward flight was such that the dummy was firmly attached to the back of the front seat. Acceleration of the head within three milliseconds amounted to 144 g, almost one and a half times more than an absolutely dangerous 100 g, when inevitably severe concussion! And this is despite the fact that the inexpensive Babyton Chinese chair is not a safety standard, but, being properly fixed, is able to protect the child during a frontal impact.

We made sure of this when we repeated the test, already with the correct installation. Moving forward was significantly less, and the dummy did not reach the front seat with its head — the overload was “yellow” 90 g.

So carefully read the instructions, install the chair without fuss and be sure - even when in a hurry! - double check whether the seat and child are fastened correctly.

Notice the difference? On the left is an example of improper installation: the belt is passed over the armrest. In the picture on the right, the seat is fastened correctly.

European standard

The new European standard i-Size (Rule ECE R129) for child seats began to operate in mid-2013. While it is only a recommendation and will be introduced gradually, in three stages. The first stage - the requirements for chairs with isofix-fasteners. The second stage is the requirements for boosters, which will have to have developed sidewalls for side impact protection. The third stage - the requirements for the so-called "integral restraints", in common parlance - the cradles, fastened with a regular seat belt. ECE R129 will finally replace the mandatory requirements of ECE R44 / 04 only by 2018.

What good is the new standard?

First, it is the versatility of the mount, ensuring maximum safety. The chair must always be equipped with isofix locks, a stop at the bottom of the car (the so-called "foot") or an anchor belt Top Tether. And the i-Size logo on your car will tell you that there will be no problems with installing such a chair, as, for example, it happens in some CDs with glove boxes in the bottom, when the “leg” rests against the flimsy plastic.

Secondly, the i-Size standard, in contrast to the rule ECE R44 / 04, provides for side impact tests. The technique is not too demanding yet (overloads are only 11 g for 60 ms), but this is better than nothing.

Thirdly, the standard introduces a mandatory landing against the stroke for children under the age of 15 months. As already proven by crash tests, including inashi recent trials of Grants and Kalina (AP NoNo5 and 8, 2015), landing against the course provides better protection for babies. The former standard ECE R44 / 04 prescribed it only for babies younger than nine months.

Fourth, crash tests according to the rule ECE R129 will be carried out using the latest Q-dummies, which, unlike the outdated P-series dummies, can measure chest compression, neck forces and pelvic acceleration.

Fifth, the classification of child seats is carried out only depending on the height of the children, and not on their weight or age. For example, for a child 115 cm in height, according to the new standard, the height of the backrest of the armchair should be at least 66 cm, and the width between the sides should be at least 32 cm.

When choosing a baby car seat for a newborn baby, many parents forget about the main criteria for choosing this indispensable device for transporting children, namely the safety indicator. Today the market is flooded with avtolyulki and car seats from a variety of manufacturers, often very beautiful, bright, stylish, but do not meet all safety standards. A child car seat should not be chosen according to the principle “for a DPS inspector,” namely, for a child, because the life and health of your baby will depend on this choice at some point.

Baby car seats for newborns

The price range for children's avtolyulki can surprise someone. It would seem, why one seat costs 4,000 rubles, and another 34,000 rubles? The best avtolyulki pass many tests before going on sale. The important role played by the results of crash tests, where a car seat is subjected to frontal and side impact, after which the degree of protection is assessed for several indicators. These tests cost a lot of money to manufacturing companies, and this amount is ultimately incorporated into the total cost of the car seat. In addition, you should also focus on the results of independent crash tests from companies such as ADAC, ANWB, etc.

Preference should be given to proven manufacturers and models of car seats made from high-quality, child-friendly materials. Buying a car seat is better in trusted stores, because fakes are now on sale very often.

How to choose a baby car seat

I am sure that the safety of the child in the car is important for the vast majority of my readers. Today, I will share with you my experience in choosing a good baby car seat.

Prehistory
When my baby was 8 months old, he finally grew out of an old Inglesina baby seat, which I bought at one time from a friend along with a stroller. Therefore, before the next car trip to Europe, I decided to buy a new car seat. Where and how? I asked these two questions to readers (among whom there are a lot of experienced parents) on my Facebook page. The opinions on the brands, as usual, diverged, but by a majority of votes I was sent to the Avtodeti shop on Vavilova Street. Moreover, it turned out that in the recent past the company sponsored young race drivers, which means that people are, as they say, “in the subject line”.

In a small shop, among the racks, filled with child seats from floor to ceiling, I immediately realized that I had come to the address.

Firstly, it became clear that my old chair was hopelessly outdated, and all the new items in comparison with it - like “Maybach” next to “Zaporozhets”. Secondly, the amount of information received from consultants was large enough so that I could decide on what exactly I want from the child car seat. And in the question, as we know, lies the bulk of the answer. But before I tell you about my choice - a bit of theory.

Security Theory and Practice
We all know that in Russia there are some rules of the road, and many people treat them with disdain. This also applies to the transportation of children. Here is what is written in the law:

22.9. Transportation of children is allowed subject to ensuring their safety, taking into account the design features of the vehicle.
Children under 12 years of age in vehicles equipped with seat belts must be carried out using child restraints appropriate for the child’s weight and height, or other means of fastening the child using the seat belts provided for in the vehicle’s structure, and in the front seat car - only with the use of child restraints.

According to GOST R 41.44-2005,

2.1 Child restraint system (restraint) (child restraint systems):A set of elements consisting of straps or flexible elements with buckles, regulating devices, fasteners and, in some cases, an additional device (for example, a child's cradle, a removable child seat, an extra seat and / or shockproof screen) that can be attached to the inner vehicle body parts. The device must be designed so that in the event of a collision or sudden braking of the vehicle, reduce the risk of injury to the child in the restraint device by limiting the moving body.

2.1.1. Child restraints are divided into five weight groups:
2.1.1.1 group 0 (group 0) - for children weighing less than 10 kg;
2.1.1.2 group 0+ (group 0+) - for children weighing less than 13 kg;
2.1.1.3 group I (group I) - for children weighing 9-18 kg;
2.1.1.4 group II (group II) - for children weighing 15-25 kg;
2.1.1.5 group III (group III) - for children weighing 22-36 kg

According to paragraph 3 of Article 12.23 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation, the penalty for the lack of a special restraint is 3000 r.

To my deepest regret, many people, sometimes seemingly adequate, ignore all possible rules - and the transportation of children is no exception. Every time when in front of me, mother with a baby in her arms sits in the back or front seat of an expensive car, or I see children standing in the back seat of a car in front of me - genuine horror envelops me. Similarly, when I read comments on the Internet like: “The chair doesn’t suit us, our kid is so fidget, he’ll never sit on the spot for more than half an hour”, or: “We do not drive fast, we don’t get into accidents, why should we torture a child in a chair ". Of course, everyone chooses on his own how to live, but it is worth bearing in mind that even in the case of even a seemingly insignificant accident at a low speed, a child without a chair may die or be seriously injured. The above also applies to cases when babies are transported in the cradles from the stroller attached to the security locks. Even if you drive slowly and very carefully, it is not a guarantee that another car will not crash into you.

The purchase of a used or cheap “homeless” chair is not correct from the point of view of security. The only thing that it will protect against is guaranteed - it is against a fine of 3,000 rubles. But at the same time, it is far from a fact that in case of an accident, this “holding device” is able to save from tragedy. After all, the “used” seat even of a well-known brand may turn out to be after an accident ... With cheap new seats it is still worse.

There are a lot of car seats, they are sold in auto parts stores, markets, even at gas stations and toy stores, but not all of these seats really protect children. At the moment (from January 1, 2015), the European norms ECE R44 / 04 are in force in Russia, implying that the design of the chair complies with certain standards. Chairs that meet this standard must be labeled with the letter E in a circle on the orange background, the index ECE R44 / 04, and an indication of the corresponding model of the child’s weight in kilograms. This is the first rule for choosing an auto-chair - if the chair is not marked with ECE R44 / 04, confirmed by a certificate - you should never buy it. The second rule - the chair should fit your child in weight, height and age.

Safety standards determine the conditions under which a child inside the seat should not be seriously injured. For an untrained person, these numbers say little about - after all, in the methods according to the certification rules of the test, not the speed of the car upon impact, but the magnitude of the deceleration and the pulse duration. According to ECE R44 / 04 directives, in the event of a frontal impact, the chair must save at a slowdown of 20g, which lasts at least 15 ms, and the peak value of the overload should not exceed 28g. According to the rules ECE R44 / 04, children under 9 months are allowed to be transported only in child seats, installed against the course of the movement.

In addition to the mandatory certification tests, all popular chairs undergo independent "crash tests." For example, similar tests are conducted in Europe by the German automobile club ADAC, and in Russia by the newspaper Avtorevyu. These tests are tougher — they simulate real accidents at a speed of 64 km.ch., respectively, and the requirements for the seats are higher: for example, in the ADAC test, a peak overload of 37g is allowed, the duration of an overload of 30 g is 13 ms. The “Auto Review” norms are still “cooler” - the peak slowdown is 38g, the duration of the overload above 30g is 17 ms. As practice shows, not all chairs certified to ECE R44 / 04 are able to withstand such loads ...

Studying the results of the tests "Auto Review" plunged me into a light shock - most of the test chairs turned out to be fake certificates or even without them, and did not stand the test of impact. Therefore, the third rule for choosing a car seat is that it should have good safety performance in independent crash tests.

In the near future, the new standard ECE R129 (i-Size) will be implemented in Europe, in which safety requirements will be stricter than in ECE R44 / 04. For example, standards for side impact are set, moreover, children under the age of 15 months will be allowed to be transported under the new rules only in the seats installed against the course of the movement. This installation option is considered the safest, even for more adult children - according to experts, the risk of neck injury in a frontal collision is reduced in this case by 80%. This is the fourth rule for choosing a car seat for a baby - it should provide the ability to transport the child in the position against the course of the movement.

Having dealt with the main selection criteria, we proceed to the nuances.

Selection of mounting type: Belt or Isofix?
According to the type of mounting car seats are divided into two types - those that are fastened with a standard car strap, and with the Isofix mount. Fastening with a belt is theoretically more reliable, because the belt is designed for more weight, but it is harder and longer to fasten such a chair. Moreover, these seats are not suitable for modern cars equipped with airbags built into the seat belts (Mercedes S-Class, Ford Mondeo, Ford Explorer - such a child seat can be placed there only in the front, disabling the airbag pre-assembly, or in the middle of the back sofa - there is an ordinary belt).

The Isofix anchorages are two metal brackets hidden in the lower back of the rear seat. They are on all modern cars. To install a compatible chair, you just need to slide the seat guides on these brackets, after which they click into place, which is confirmed by the green light of the corresponding indicators.

It is very simple and convenient, but chairs with Isofix also have disadvantages - firstly, they are 30% more expensive, and secondly, not all models allow the installation of a chair in the front seat. Among such cars can be called, for example, Smart and the new Renault Twingo. There are also models where the Isofix mount can be removed, and the seat is fixed with a regular belt - most of these seats in the “older” 2/3 groups, designed for children weighing 12-36 kg, i.e. from three to 12 years. In such chairs, the Isofix mount does not carry a large power load, since the seat itself is lighter and the child, in any case, is fixed with a standard seat belt. But back to our seats group 0/1.

When choosing a chair with Isofix, pay attention to the additional attachment. Yes, two loops - that's not all! Such seats require additional fixation - either with the help of a retractable rack resting on the floor, or with the help of "anchors" ("Top Tether"), clinging to special slots in the luggage compartment. As practice shows, such fasteners are not in every car. The telescopic rack version is more versatile, but it is not suitable for those cars that have a luggage compartment under a plastic mat (this is found on many minivans).

Additional car seat features
Modern children's chairs have a number of options that greatly facilitate their daily use and long-distance driving. Firstly, it is the ability to rotate the chair 90 degrees - turning the chair to an open door or to the rear passenger, it will be much easier for you to put a child in it.

When choosing a seat with this option, make sure that the turn function will work in your particular car - for this it must have a fairly wide back sofa and a high ceiling.

The second most important option for lovers of long journeys is the possibility of tilting the chair. In the upright position, the baby is awake, sleeping in the inclined. This is more physiological and very important if you plan to drive a thousand kilometers with a baby in one day. Good seats have at least three tilt positions.

Where in the car is safer to install a child seat
According to studies, the back seat (or in the middle row, if you have a seven-seater car) is 59-86% safer than in the front seats. With the rear seat in the middle 25% safer than the side, which is explained by greater safety during side impact. Unfortunately, not all cars on the second row have three Isofix mounts, because This imposes some limitations on the possibility of transforming the split backrest. Three Isofix rear mounts are on the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso, Ford S-Max, Peugeot 308SW, Seat Alhambra, Renault Grand Scenic, Audi Q7, Opel Insignia, Peugeot 5008, Mercedes-Benz GL, Tesla Model S, Ford Galaxy.

If your car does not have an average Isofix attachment, then in such cases it is recommended to install the seat behind the front passenger, since in this case the seat is manipulated from the side of the pedestrian zone rather than the roadway, and this is more secure. Installation of the chair had to be made strictly according to the instructions attached to the chair, otherwise the safety of your child will be a big question.

How to fasten a child in the car seat
It should be remembered that not a single, even the “coolest” and correctly installed child seat will help if you incorrectly fasten the child. The belts should be well tightened; only two fingers should pass under the diagonal straps. Also, do not put the child in a chair in the down-padded coats - firstly, it will be hot, and secondly, in such clothes it is very difficult to find the correct belt tension.

Useful accessories
When buying a car seat it makes sense to pay attention to various accessories - some of them are very useful. For example, in the summer you will need a special cotton case - so the baby will not sweat, and there will be no stains from sweat on the chair.

If you are worried about the safety of the interior of your car, it makes sense to buy protective pads on the back of the front or rear seat,

as well as a special lining under the chair that protects the back of the sofa from wiping.

My choice
Having thoroughly understood the question, I concretized my request to the consultants of the Avtodeti company. Since I travel in different cars and I love traveling with a child over long distances, my wishes for the chair were as follows: as safe as possible for a child weighing from 9 kg to 18 kg, with the possibility of installing against the course of the movement, the ability to simply rearrange from one machine to other (mount type ISOFIX with "foot"), the possibility of tilting.

“Both seats with good safety performance were tested in ADAC, Cybex was tested in 2013, Maxi-Cosi in 2015, and there and there the final grade is“ good. ”Both chairs allow you to transport the child against the movement for as long as possible. it is very important from the point of view of security. Maxi-Cosi already meets the new European standard (R129). "

After analyzing the prices and fitting, my choice fell on the German chair Cybex Sirona - it fully complied with all my wishes, and cost much less than Maxi-Cosi (for which it was necessary to buy another base for some money).

The baby was very comfortable in it already during the fitting.

A trip to Estonia for the New Year holidays confirmed that the chair fit perfectly and, if necessary, we drove 1000 km without problems every day (of course, letting the kid take a walk at the stops). The total mileage per trip was more than 3,500 km.

Thanks to the tilt function, the child slept perfectly in the chair, and while he was awake, he looked around.

Vertical position:

"Sleepy" position:

The function of turning the chair also turned out to be a real find (especially important when overboard -20 and you need to quickly put the child in the car).

The only pity is that in the small Skoda Rapid, the limited width of the back sofa does not allow you to turn the seat towards the rear passenger - it rests against the closed door, and you can only turn it when the door is open. However, in the spacious Subaru Forester chair rotated in both directions without problems.

Apart from the fact that the chair is very comfortable, it has different features: a telescopic support for additional protection during side collisions ...

... and magnets on the sides, holding the straps in the open position.

In the position opposite to the movement of the movement, the baby is fixed by five-point seat belts with soft removable covers and a powerful lock. By mistake, it is impossible to deploy a seat in such a configuration in the direction of travel - there is a special lock.

The indicator shows that the Isofix fasteners are buttoned.

The belt is tightened and weakened very simply. The inclination is also regulated without problems, at this time you do not disturb the child. The chair can also be moved back and forth with respect to the Isofix attachment to better fit the rear support to the back of the seat. The telescopic support also makes it easy to set up a seat for another car.

Installing a seat in the car takes less than a minute, but it’s still a man’s job, as it weighs about 15 kg.

After the baby grows up, the chair unfolds in the direction of travel, and is fixed by a voluminous “table” with its own lock.

When the baby finally grows out of the chair, you can pass it on the trade-inu back to the store for about a third of the cost.

Crash tests of children's car seats ADAC

Total
Choosing a good child car seat was not an easy task, but now I am calm for the safety of my child. Of course, it may seem to someone that 30 thousand rubles per armchair is expensive, but if we assume that the armchair is bought for at least three years, then it is about 27 rubles per day. In my opinion, a small fee for the safety of your child!

1 year

We tested 28 child car seats. Most of our tests are based on current standards.

For example, we conduct a frontal collision by analogy with a mandatory test for certification of car seats. However, we do this test at a higher speed. In addition, we are always experiencing baby car seats and a side impact. And in accordance with the new standard, such testing becomes mandatory with certification. We also check how comfortable the chair is in use and maintenance, and we estimate the risk of incorrect installation of the chair in the car.

Since 2011, we have been checking car seats for the content of harmful substances. To do this, we take a plating sample and analyze it in the laboratory. Based on the results of all these checks, the final ADAC score is calculated.

In this test, 18 seats received an overall rating of "good." The “very good” rating was received by the only Recaro Privia child car seat with an isofix base.

It is not only easy and reliable, but also easy to use.

Did not pass the test chair ABC Design Risus. This chair does not meet the requirements in frontal and side collisions.

The test also shows that the content of harmful substances in the chairs as a whole has become lower.

At the beginning of the test, we checked an i-Size chair. This model has been certified according to the new European standard №129.

Since last summer, there is a new European standard №129 for child seats. It operates in parallel with the already known standard number 44. New, so-called i-Size norm, we can find out by this symbol.
If such a symbol is placed both on the child seat and in the car, they are fully compatible.

New is also the fact that children under 15 months should sit in this chair against the movement of the car. This means that only older children can look ahead.

ADAC advises when buying a new chair to find time to get a good consultation, always follow the operating instructions and properly fasten the child during each trip.

In addition, parents should take a test ride with the child in the child seat. Be careful with cheap or used car seats. Only flawless armchair can provide maximum security. "

From http: //avtokresla.rf

05/22/2014 published new results of independent crash tests for children's car seats. A total of 28 models were tested. I present a brief overview of the results and my comments on the most interesting models and their tests. Unfortunately, not all the novelties that I would like to see have been tested, but nevertheless, there are new candidates for the right choice.

Today I want to run a little on fresh crash tests of car seats “spring 2014“, Which were published on the twenty-second, and in which twenty-eight models of children's car seats were tested.

I will dwell on more or less interesting results and comment on them a little. If somewhere I will come across a chair that participated in the crash test, I will show it. If it does not come across, then I will not.

So, a group of 0+, from birth to about a year old.

So the test leader is a set of Recaro Privia cradle and Isofix base.   Actually, here it is, this kit is installed. On the basis of isofix, I received a security mark on security, a very good mark in general. And the total score is also two pluses.

By the way, about the ratings that I call. They may not coincide with those published in the crash test. There, the color is highlighted and everyone pays attention to the overall assessment, which consists of safety, usability, environmental friendliness of materials, and so on.

I think the main thing is safety assessment, I call it, as a rule. If there is something wrong with other assessments, then I mention it and comment on it.

This means that the Concord Airsafe models with and without the base follow. For safety, they get two plus marks. In fact, this model Concord Air, which is well known to us. It was renamed, because last year there was some excess in the content of harmful substances. He was almost immediately corrected, but in order to re-take this test and this problem no longer arose, they slightly renamed the model. By itself, - normal average stable cradle. It turns out very safe and at the same time it is one of the easiest. I would not say that she has some legendary quality of materials, but at the expense of weight, we can recommend to those who are going to carry a lot in the cradle. That is, when the task is not only to get down from the house to the car, but also to be taken to the clinic, to go to the store with the child in her arms is an excellent choice.

Next - Cybex Aton Q, this is a line of Platinum from Cybex.   Top Model. Here it is without a base, that's based on Isofix. The chair, in which a rather gentle position is made for a newborn child, is controlled from the front by a headrest, new materials are used in upholstery, and additional side protection systems. I received a security assessment (Very Good). Moreover, what happens very rarely is the same, the highest rating is both with the base and without the base. This is especially exclusive for the chair, which is almost horizontal position of a small child inside.

Maxi-kozi Pebble, which is now installed on a new base.   In principle, this model has already been tested, the model is very well known, the GUT score was confirmed on a new basis. The peculiarity is that the new base allows you to install a chair of the next age group in a new version. It will be called Maxi Cosi 2wayPearl (instead of the familiar Pearl model) and can be placed in the new base both against the move and in the course. And this is the first of the tested seats, which meets the I-Size standard. But we still will reach it.

What else is interesting here? Recaro Privia, tested without a base, showed a lower score, an estimate than based on Isofix, GUT. In general, it is also normal.

ABC Design in Russia is not particularly represented, so we ignore.

Jane Matrix 2 Light. He is pursued by a little failure. Although an interesting model of the chair. They have the idea that it can be used across the trajectory of movement for a completely newborn child, and up to ten kilograms. And maybe against the move, like an ordinary cradle, i.e. it is transformed from cross lying situation to a normal cradle. And in principle, for safety, he is fine. But the score for possible errors in the installation, difficulties in ergonomics and the like, operational, was greatly reduced. It is difficult to judge how realistic this problem is, but here it is. Specifically, for security everything is done correctly, everything is placed correctly, he, in principle, everything is fine.

Car seats-Transformers from 0 to 18 kilograms (group 0 + / 1).

Concord Ultimax 2 gets a plus, “Good.”   In principle, Concord Ultimax ordinary had a GUT rating. I suspect that there is again renaming to level problems with the content of harmful substances in the past test.

Romer Max-Fix 2, Izofiks.   Same. Before that, we tested Max-Fix, it was the same GUT estimate, but a little not very content with harmful substances. They renamed the number 2 added and now everything is in order.

Here is the interesting position of Romer Dualfix.   In general, they waited a lot from this chair, the chair is expensive, swivel bowl, Idofix ... This is a little strange result of the test, which shows the problem in safety. I was somewhat surprised, I climbed to look at the detailed decoding, and it turned out that, in principle, it is even recommended for safety. He has excellent frontal safety indicators, normal side ones, but a strange phrase was written ... I’m more guided by a Google translator, I don’t know German well enough that this problem is with straps that don’t allow us to fix the newborn child quite clearly. It's hard to understand. And it is recommended to use it older.
But on the other hand, speaking of group 0 + / 1 ... I have always said that group zero plus one and newborn children are, in principle, incompatible in their design ... This is a mockery of a child, a newborn in these transformers to put. And about five or six months (when I and the manufacturers recommend), it’s not enough to sin on what you wrote in the test. So, again, I repeat, a bit strange test result, I watched the test version, where decoding in tenths and the comment that was on the front, on the side impact, is going on - everything is fine there. That is, apparently, some kind of empirical assessment - it seemed to the experts conducting the test that the newborn child would not be clearly fixed with straps. I can not say, wait for the results. Well, it is literally written that in the future it provides good security. Let's see if some comments may still appear.

So. We turn to the first group (group 1, from 9 to 18 kg, car seats from 1 to 3 years, approximately).

Chicco or Chicco Oasys 1 IsoFix... Peculiar chair. One of the nice features is that it is inexpensive for the armchair of the first group with Isofix. But made a rather peculiar shape of the bowl. Very deep, so slightly square, it usually discourages live customers. Although, as I recall, representatives of the plant itself, when the layout of this chair was still being developed, argued that this is precisely the position of a child at the age of nine months, when comfort is most important, most ergonomic. But parents have not yet appreciated. And so, it turns out that less than fourteen thousand cars are worth a car seat, now with exactly a good safety rating, the Isofix system. Fine.

Then here, in fact, what I said. The first chair is already in the standard I-Size, passed the test - Maxi-kozi 2wayPearl. Installed on the new base Maxi Cosi 2wayFix. It can be installed both against the course and in the course. And here the period of its use is already determined not by the parameters of weight, but by parameters of growth and age. In it, the child is supposed to ride against the course of up to fifteen months, then the chair turns along and in this form we go to the next age group. It complements the Maxi-kozi set, that is, according to their idea, first the cradle (Maxi Cosi Pebble from 0 kg) is placed on this base, then this chair (2wayPearl) is already placed in the position opposite to the turn, then turns along . Moreover, if the child grew from a cradle, turned out to be large, grew up in seven months, then you can immediately change to a 2wayPearl against the move.

So. Another of the interesting in group 1 (9-18 kg). Here are two interesting models Migo Saturn and Migo Saturn Solar Isofix.   In living them in Russia especially you will not meet. This is one of the countless brands of Nania, or Team Tex, as they are called. They released the luxury segment Migo. Well, in principle, the price is already such that it compares with any other manufacturer. The main advantage of Nania is that the cheap price is no longer there. Maybe brought to Russia ..

Group 1-2-3, from 9 to 36 kg.

Nania I-Max SP Isofix scores satisfactory.   Well, Nania has always been unique. The most massive European production. Where the robot with great speed pulls the cover on the case. The simplest design. We immediately see that the robot, no extra elements, even foam. There are six brands of pieces, I don’t know, about thirty or forty models, each year new ones, five of them, by the method of scientific testing, get a stable percentage of “satisfactory”. But, in principle, here among the Nania in each group, you can choose a model in which there will be satisfactory security, which will be very cheap and will be an excellent substitute for cheap Chinese chairs. Therefore, I am absolutely critical of them.

And by the way, what is interesting is that this is the first successfully tested chair of the 1-2-3 group with straps and isofix !!! I have described all the problems of this solution in a separate article. And it was in this cheap controversial model that the normal result was J !! Although if you cling, then the side safety is “GOOD” for him (logical for isofix in all groups), but the frontal one is only “Acceptable”, i.e. 2 points immediately lower. More details on where exactly it was reduced are not indicated, but it is almost certain that the problem is in the older group of 2-3, when fixed with a regular belt. It is there that hard, full-fledged isofix is contraindicated.

But in general - this is what I dig. The fact remains that there is a chair for a 1-2-3 transformer with isofix and a decent safety rating. If it were not for the “extraordinary” quality of performance of this brand, it would definitely have been a sales hit. Attention! Be sure to have Top Tether.

Group 2-3 (15-36 kg, from 3 years). Well, here in general a little tested.

Romer Kidfix XP .. Last year Romer Kidfix XP Sict was tested, the same, only with additional side security elements. He even received then in general the highest and the only mark in the history for this group that was “grave” (very good). Now its slightly simpler analogue without twisting side additional security features was tested. Kidfix XP gets a decent Gut rating, “good.” The peculiarity of this car seat is the same as in Romer Kidfix XP SICT, an XP-Pad pad through which a regular belt is held and which reduces the “nod” effect. That is, the child with his chin, in which case he brakes against this lining, and it rather strongly reduces the load on the neck.

Well, in principle, probably, from this that seems to me interesting in this crash test, that's all.

In general, in this test, as many as eighteen models received a good safety rating. It seems to me that this is a very worthy result, that is, in principle, it is becoming easier and easier to choose in any group a safe, reliable, tested model. I remember a few years ago, when units managed to extract models that have at least some information from independent crash tests. Now, of course, everything is much simpler, the choice is much larger.

It’s a pity that some models I hoped for, such as Cybex Solution Q-Fix, Romer King 2, didn’t get into the test. there may be some other new models already there.

And we can see many more interesting results.
