What information does the status bar contain. Excel status bar options What the status bar is for

  • Date: 21.11.2021

Or Windows Phone has a variety of ways to control and adjust how a device works. One of the simplest of them is through the "settings" section. In this application, the user can monitor the status of the device and receive detailed information about all processes taking place in the smartphone. But there is a much simpler control method. Many people know perfectly well what will be discussed. But they hardly attached much importance to this option. So, the easiest way to control your phone is the Android status bar.

What does it look like?

The status bar is easy to find: it is always located at the very top of the display and is visible even with almost any open applications (except, of course, video). By the way, it is often painted in the general color of the application that is open: a browser or YouTube, for example.

Moreover, many manufacturers like to install various add-ons into their smartphones: the so-called “shells”. And these very shells can change the design of the status bar.

What is contained?

In the status bar, each user can find the battery indicator of the device, the active SIM card, as well as the sound mode that is currently on.

Plus, the status bar displays the current time and sometimes the date.

In addition, many applications add their own solutions and options to track their work, icons and symbols of which are also displayed on the Android status bar.

For example, the application of the social network Instagram, if you enable the appropriate settings, puts in the status bar notifications about new followers, likes on photos or messages in Direct. Thanks to this, users always know what's new in their account.

And the video hosting application YouTube puts notifications about new published videos in the "Android status bar" section.

Thanks to her, users of the VKontakte application always know what music is playing in their playlist, and who writes them comments under the records and private messages.

Naturally, most applications provide all users with the ability to customize which notifications will be displayed in the "Status bar" section.

What does access give?

From the "Status bar" column, you can "pull" the notification curtain, in which there are many different functions, ranging from turning sound modes on and off, ending with the activation of the flight mode.

Many manufacturers tend to install their own add-ons on the initial version of Android. These add-ons are also called shells.

For example, for a long period of time Samsung has been using the TouchWiz shell, which many users literally hated for having a huge number of malfunctions and high consumption of the device's RAM. Now the company has switched to the Samsung UX interface.

So, these skins often change the notification curtain beyond recognition. And not only in terms of design, but also in terms of functionality. For example, the developers of the same Samsung are very fond of taking out a lot of small but important functions from the "Settings" section to the curtain bar-panel. Moreover, from its notifications, you can go to the device settings section itself. By the way, many people find it quite convenient.

What are the problems with her?

It often happens that the status bar simply disappears from the screen for no reason. And many users start to panic. But don't despair.

First, you need to wait a bit. No matter how comical and trite it may sound, it really is. Sometimes the problem will resolve itself.

Secondly, rebooting the device helps, which is more likely to return the status bar to its original place.

Thirdly, it is possible that the problem lies in third-party add-ons that are installed by the user himself. The so-called "launchers" have a tendency to occasionally hide the "Status bar" section from the display. Therefore, be careful with the installed software.

In general, as can be seen from the above, the main reason why the status bar most often disappears is the imperfection of the software installed on the device. It is likely that either deleting or updating this very software will help solve the problem of the missing status bar.

Outcome

As a result, it turns out that the Android status bar is a really useful tool that helps users not only track battery power and Internet connection speed, but also monitor many processes that occur in the device itself and in various applications that are installed on it.

And the absence of this tool significantly complicates the life of gadget owners for the reason that the status bar contains a lot of useful information that is always at hand, which is undoubtedly very convenient.

And many manufacturers, realizing the importance of the status bar in Android OS, are trying to supplement it with various functions and transform it so that it is even more convenient for them to read various data from it.

I had a status bar in Word 2007. Convenient. Located at the bottom of the screen. Shows the number of pages in the document, the number of the current page of the document, the scale of the document and a number of other document parameters (Fig. 1, click on the picture to enlarge):

Rice. 1 Status bar in Word 2007

You can even customize it, the status bar. To do this, in the free space of the status bar, you need to right-click and a context menu will appear (Fig. 2). We put or uncheck the box next to the parameter of interest, and thereby the status bar settings in Word 2007 are performed.

Rice. 2 Customizing the status bar in Word 2007

And suddenly - there is no status bar. How the cow licked her tongue. What happened? What happened? Where and on what did you click? Unclear.

I'm trying to recover. I save the document with which I worked. I close Word. I start Word again, open the document. The status bar, alas, did not appear.

I go through all sorts of settings in Word 2007. For example, I look in the top menu "View", but there is nothing about the status bar. When she was in her place, I somehow did not notice her. And now this useful line has disappeared ...

Let's try to check the simplest option.

Word status bar closed by taskbar

If in Windows 7 or in Windows 8.1 the Word status bar looks through the taskbar or doesn't even look through, in any case, let's try a simple option first.

1) You need to unpin the Taskbar, more details. Then you should move the Taskbar to the left or right on the screen. Then everything will be visible at the bottom of the screen, including, possibly, the status bar of Word. If it is not visible, then it really is not.

2) There are 3 buttons in the upper right corner of the Word window:

Rice. 3 Buttons in the upper right corner of the Word window

It is necessary to click on the "Minimize to window" button (2 in Fig. 3) so that the border appears at the Word window.

3) Then you need to move the mouse cursor to the border of the Word window and raise the window up to reduce it from the bottom.

4) Return the Taskbar to the bottom, pin it.

5) In the upper right corner of Word, click on button 2 in Fig. 3 and maximize the window to full screen. Verify visually that the Word status bar is now visible and in place.

If this option did not fit, let's move on to a more complex option.

Word distribution

A more serious option is the distribution kit (installation program) of Word 2007 as part of the MS Office 2007 distribution kit. I insert the disc with the MS Office 2007 distribution kit. I find the Word 2007 distribution kit on it. The first desire is to completely remove Word 2007 from the computer, and then reinstall it from the distribution kit ...

But then I decide to try to install Word 2007 over the installed program without removing it from the list of installed programs. Because if the installation on top of the running software fails, then I always have time to remove the old program and then reinstall it.

So, I launch the Word 2007 setup program. Double-click the left mouse button on the corresponding icon in the window on the disk and ... For less than 1 second, the Word 2007 installation window appears, in which I have time to read the inscription “Word 2007 settings are being configured”. I didn't even have time to do it to show it clearly. Then the window disappears and nothing else happens. Nothing happens at all.

Then I decide to start Word 2007 again. And I see the long-awaited status bar in its usual place. Here, as it turns out, everything is simple! The developers of Word 2007 have foreseen everything. And even this unusual situation of disappearance of the status bar.

But I still don't understand how, out of all the variety of Word 2007 settings, they decided that it was the status bar that I needed to restore. At least a question was asked during the restoration of parameters, for example, what setting do you need. Probably in this case everything is done "". That is, the developers of Word 2007 themselves made a decision about what exactly the user needs, without asking him "unnecessary" questions. A trifle, but nice! In less than a second, and everything works as usual again.

In vain they scold Microsoft for the allegedly poor quality of software products and a weak focus on users. Remarkable quality and the best customer orientation - the user hasn’t said anything yet, but they have already done everything and, most importantly, they have done exactly what the user needs.

The Mini Toolbar contains the most commonly used elements for data decoration. The Mini Toolbar is very similar to the simplified version of the Toolbar. Formatting from older versions of Word. You can see it in two cases - when you right-click and when you select text. In the second case, it is almost transparent and visible if you hover over it (Fig. 1.9).

Status bar

The status bar is a bar located at the bottom of the Word window, below the text area and scroll bar. It displays various information about the document, such as the total number of pages in the document and the current page number. In Word 2007, you can see a zoom slider on the right side of the status bar that you can move, or you can press the plus and minus buttons to zoom in or out by ten percent.

Almost all of the information blocks on the status bar are buttons designed for quick access to commands. For example, when clicking on a button with the number of pages a window opens Find and replace,

allowing you to quickly jump to another page of the document. Clicking the word count button opens the document statistics window,

where the number of lines, paragraphs, characters without spaces and with spaces is shown.

If you click on the button that shows the language , the window for choosing the language in the current document opens

.

Finally, clicking the button that indicates the presence of spelling errors will cause the nearest misspelled word to be highlighted in the text. A context menu will also open, in which you can select an option to replace a word or exclude it from the spell check.

All of these blocks can be removed from the status bar. In Word 2007, you can customize the commands assigned to it. To do this, right-click on it.

In the menu, you can not only disable the display of unnecessary commands, but also enable those that are inactive by default. For example, you can enable the display of the Caps Lock key press, line number, section number, column number, and other information.

5.5. INSTRUMENT PANEL AND STATUS BAR

Toolbar (Toolbar ) and status bar ( Status Bar ) - this is special new user interface components for creatingfunction-oriented sets of controls. Tool panelcops contains, as a rule, controls that provide quickaccess to the most frequently used commands or object properties. RazliThere are several types of toolbars, focused on the use inspecific applications. Such specialized panels sometimes haveown names (fig. 5.31).

Rice. 5.31. Toolbar examples

The status bar is a special area within the primary window (usuallyat the bottom of it), designed to display information about the current state the names of objects or processes presented in the window, as well as any other contextlocal information, for example, about the state of the keyboard (Fig. 5.32). You can like thisuse the status bar to provide help messagesabout the selected menu item or toolbar button. Like the inst panel ruments, the status bar may contain controls; however, it is recommended to include read-only or non-interactive information. creative elements.

Accessing controls included in a toolbar or strobeku state, implemented either with the mouse, or through other standard means of interaction with these elements. Keyboard interaction based on the use of hotkeys or keys can also be implemented.vis access. If a toolbar or status bar item does not have text label, keyboard accessors for it are ineffective tive. Also, if any access key is already in use in the lane in the private window, it cannot be used to operate the toolbar. On example if the primary window's menu bar is already using some keyaccess, then all events associated with this key will be processed for examplespecific to the menu bar.

Rice. 5.32. Status bar implementations

When a user interacts with a control locatedon the toolbar or status bar, any change is immediate but refers to the current selection (for example, if the toolbar button is before assigned to change the font style in the text, then when this button is pressed the text changes immediately); no further confirmation is required. The only exception is when using the elementcontrol (for example, buttons), requires the user to enter an additionalinformation; the corresponding operation cannot be implemented until the userthe user does not enter the required information. An example of such an exception is selecting an object or setting a parameter value using the dialog box.

For those items in the toolbar or status bar that do not havetext label, a tooltip must be used. The system supports the creation of tooltips for the elements of the standard toolbar.

In order to provide maximum flexibility in the work of panel usersinstruments and status bars must be customizable. The simplest way to do this is to hide (not show) these interface elements. In more complex applications, the user is provided You have the right to change or rearrange items included in toolbars or status bars.

It is also recommended to provide the ability to display each buttonon the toolbar at least two sizes: 24 by 22 and 32 by 30 pixelsfishing. If graphic labels are used to denote buttons, they should be no more than 16 by 16 and 24 by 24 pixels, respectively.

Consider also creating a user-relocatable paneltools. Although the default toolbar appears as at docked to a specific edge of the window or panel in which it is used, allow the user to move it to the other edge or display it as a windowpalette (fig.5.33).

Rice. 5.33. Floating toolbar

To move the toolbar, you need to set the pointer on any free area of the panel and, by clicking the LMB, drag it to a new one a place. If the new position is within hot zone edge of the window, atthe position should automatically dock the panel to the edge of the window (after as the user releases the mouse button). If the new position is outside the window edge hot zone, the toolbar is converted to a palette window. To re-dock the panel to the edge of the window, the user must setchange the pointer on the title bar of the palette window and, by pressing LMB, movethis window until the pointer is in the hot zone; when the user releases the mouse button, the toolbar is displayed in the docked with standing.

Provide visual feedback as you move the toolbar.link by displaying, for example, the movement of a toolbar outline. When the pointer enters the hot zone of the window, reshape the toolbar accordingly so that the user can visually controlration operation (fig. 5.34).

Rice. 5.34. Visualization of toolbar movement

You can also support customization for the toolbar. other options, such as resizing the toolbar. cops, joining several panels, placing them in the required order, etc.

It is not recommended to include in the toolbar and status baritems that the user cannot otherwise access. exceptaddition, always keep the current position, size and other information about the panel tools and status bar so that they can be restored to as it was when the user reopens the application window.

The status bar also supports the ability to include regulatorto calibrate the window size described in chapter 4. When implementing this possibility, the following should be borne in mind.

It is impossible to simultaneously display the controller in two positions: in the status lineand at the intersection of the window's scroll bars (in its standard position). When on the screen displays a status line containing a regulator, then it must be removed from the standard position; if the user removes the status bar, restore the knob to its standard position.
