Nowadays, even official medicine has recognized the usefulness of the cuff, so its dry fees are freely sold in pharmacies, and extracts from it are part of many drugs.

Biological description

The medicinal properties and contraindications of which have been known in Russia since ancient times, belong to the pink family. Its official name is an ordinary cuff, or yellow-green. In Latin, it sounds like Alchemilla vulgaris. This plant can be bought at the pharmacy, or you can procure it yourself.

It is not difficult to recognize the cuff by the palmate-lobed leaflets, which really look like a wide goose foot. Leaves that grow in the basal zone, petiolate, relatively large, veins divided into 9-11 concave lobes. Leaves growing on stems are without stalks and smaller. Both those and others have an easy edge. The cuff has very characteristic inflorescences. The medicinal properties and contraindications of this herb, as studies have established, are maximum during the flowering period, that is, you need to know well how its flowers look. Outwardly, they are noteworthy, small, yellow-green, collected in numerous loose umbrellas. But each flower individually looks like a small star. The rhizome of the cuff is somewhat reminiscent of the horseradish root. It is quite thick, located horizontally underground, reaching several meters. As the rhizome grows, new buds form on it, from which stems grow, that is, this plant belongs to the so-called creeping. The cuff stalk barely reaches 40–45 cm in height. It, like the leaflets, is covered with a light edge. The cuff is a perennial. Its ground parts die off with frost, but in the spring, as soon as the sun begins to warm, they grow back.

Chemical composition

Although for several hundred years a weed cuff has been used to get rid of various ailments, the medicinal properties and contraindications of this plant are still being studied. To date, scientists have discovered the following chemical elements in the aerial parts and partly in the rhizome of the cuff:

Phytosterols (phytosterols);

Vitamin C;

Coumarins;

Tannins;

Fatty acid;

Flavonoids;

Leukoanthicides;

Catechins;

Trace elements.

Therapeutic effect

In both official and folk medicine, the cuff has found widespread use. The therapeutic properties and contraindications of many drugs based on it have passed clinical trials and are used internally for such diseases:

The presence of "bad" cholesterol is higher than normal (actively reduces it);

Gastrointestinal diseases;

Colds and everything that accompanies it (runny nose, cough, weakness);

Asthma and other diseases caused by spasms;

Epilepsy;

Atherosclerosis;

Diseases of the heart and coronary vessels;

Diabetes;

Diseases of the genitourinary system;

Obesity;

Used as a drug that slows down aging and removes toxins from the body.

As an external agent, the cuff is used to treat:

Boils;

Purulent wounds and ulcers;

With various injuries;

Dropsy;

Scrofula;

Herpes.

Cuff, medicinal properties and contraindications undergoing tests

Since the chemical composition of this herb contains several substances with antitumor properties (coumarins, phytosterols, leukoanthicides, catechins), scientists are actively exploring the possibility of treating cancer with the cuff. Such studies are currently underway in China, the USA and Japan. The possibilities of using this plant for the treatment are also specified:

Viral and infectious diseases;

Schizophrenia;

To restore reproductive function.

Another aspect of the use of the cuff, which is still being tested, is its use as components in dietary supplements for sports nutrition, as experiments have shown that the cuff is able to increase muscle mass without changing the hormonal level.

Cuff for women

For women, the cuff is unusually widely used. The therapeutic properties and contraindications in the gynecology of drugs with this herb have long been studied and are not in doubt. The beneficial substances contained in the cuff help stabilize the hormonal background, normalize the work of all organs, relieve fatigue, and relieve headaches. All these actions help women to tolerate menopause well. For women in childbearing age, doctors advise using a cuff to treat infertility and with problems with menstruation. Pregnant women with a cuff are recommended to drink to speed up and facilitate childbirth, as well as if an incorrect location of the placenta is found. After birth, this herb is taken to improve lactation.

In addition to preparations for internal use, a cuff is also used in gynecology for external use. The therapeutic properties and contraindications for women with whitening, genital itching, inflammation, erosion are not antagonists, that is, the therapeutic effect is repeatedly confirmed in practice, and contraindications in this case apply only to those with drugs with a cuff that cause allergies. For women whose body tolerates the cuff well, traditional medicine advises doing syringing and bathing with decoctions of this herb. To prepare the solution, you need to take 3-4 tablespoons of dry raw materials, pour 200-300 ml of boiling water, insist, strain, cool to room temperature.

For men

The cuff helps not only the weaker, but also the stronger sex. The medicinal properties and contraindications for men of this herb are still being studied. So, there is a hypothesis that drugs with the addition of a cuff increase stamina during physical exertion, as well as contribute to muscle mass gain and at the same time remove fat. Folk healers are advised to treat prostatitis with a cuff. For this, the plant must be consumed regularly all year round. In summer, fresh leaves of the cuff need to be added to salads, make tea with them, and cook soups. In winter, pickled leaves and stems of this herb are used.

Fermentation recipe: slightly crush the green mass of grass (leaves, stems, flowers), add brine (5 teaspoons of salt per 500 ml of water), add spices to taste (dill, garlic, allspice, bay leaf), cover a slice of brown bread, cover with gauze or a sheet of plantain and put in a warm place for 3-4 days, then put in the refrigerator. Take a fermented cuff for 30 days in a tablespoon.

With diabetes

Since ancient times, folk healers, and more recently, official medicine, use a cuff to treat a variety of diseases. The healing properties of diabetes are so high that they allow people suffering from this very unpleasant disease to significantly lower blood sugar without drugs. In the early stages of diabetes, the effect of cuff treatment is unique. With its help, not only sugar returns to normal, but also the skin condition improves, the work of the digestive tract and pancreas normalizes. The prescription is unusually simple: you just need to brew the cuff, like regular tea, and drink daily. You can also prepare a mixture of cuffs, lilac buds, dandelion and licorice roots, and sage. The only thing diabetics should not forget is that drugs with a cuff negatively affect blood coagulation, so before you start drinking tea with this weed, you need to pass the appropriate tests.

Contraindications

Like any other medicine, the cuff also has healing properties and contraindications. Reviews of people who used it for various diseases are mostly positive. If the recommendations and dosages are correctly observed, patients can use this herb to cope with diabetes in the early stages of the disease, improve the general condition of the body, get rid of renal colic, runny nose, insomnia, headache, diarrhea, stomach ulcers, varicose veins and many other ailments . However, we must not forget about the contraindications of the cuff. It can not be used for:

Pregnancy (some healers, on the contrary, advise taking a cuff, starting from the second trimester);

Increased blood coagulability;

Individual intolerance.

With an overdose of drugs with a cuff, diarrhea can begin.

It is also important to note that for medicinal purposes, this herb should be harvested only during the flowering period (from late May to September).

Cuff  - this is not only a beautiful ornamental plant that can decorate any garden, but also an effective medicine that helps in the fight against many diseases, among which are obesity, tuberculosis, infertility, etc. About the amazing properties of the cuff, its widespread use in folk medicine, forms and rules of use - we will talk further.

Description of the medicinal plant cuff

Cuff grass can be recognized among other plants by its peculiar leaves, which in their shape resemble patterned cuffs, which were popular in the old days with the rich nobility. This similarity formed the basis of the name of the plant.

An interesting fact is that each leaf of the cuff (or rather, the teeth of the leaf) is dotted with dew drops that form the original sparkling border around the entire edge of the leaf. In turn, in the very center of the leaflet (at the location of the vein-capillaries) is the largest drop, which is similar to a pearl resting in a shell. Therefore, it is not at all surprising that the people called the cuff god tear, sky dew, cilia, dewdrop.

Translated from Latin, Alchemilla (or cuff) is the grass of alchemists who attributed this plant a special magical power (to be precise, the water that accumulates in the leaves of the plant had healing power). Alchemists tried to use grass to obtain the elixir of life, returning youth and beauty.

But the flowers of this perennial plant, whose height does not exceed 50 cm, do not differ in special beauty: they are inconspicuous in appearance and have a very small size, which also does not make them attractive.

The distribution area of \u200b\u200bthe cuff is almost the entire territory of Europe. The plant grows in forests, meadows and forest edges, as well as along roadsides and arable land.

Cuff varieties

Botanists around the world still can not come to a consensus on the number of types of cuffs (it is known that there are more than 40 of them). But they all agree that the differences between the species are minimal, and even those mainly relate to flowering time, the size of the plant itself and external features. In addition, all types of cuffs in general have almost identical healing properties, which is why they are used in various countries as an astringent, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, and sedative.

In folk medicine, many types of plants are used, but herbalists give preference to one - the ordinary cuff, which we will discuss in detail in this article.

Important!  Other types of cuffs also have healing properties, so any variety of this plant can be used for medicinal purposes.

Common cuff

This type of cuff is a perennial creeping plant with yellow-green small flowers collected in false umbrellas. Plant height rarely exceeds the mark of 45 - 50 cm.

The cuff is growing in most of the European territory of Russia, as well as in Siberia (its southernmost regions are an exception). It occurs in shrubs, in fairly light rare forests, on lawns, in dry ditches.

It should be noted that official medicine does not recognize the healing properties of the cuff, considering them ineffective. In addition, this plant is not well understood, and therefore (according to doctors) can not be used as a therapeutic agent.

But!  There are various drugs with a cuff (mainly drug fees) that eliminate metabolic disorders. In turn, the German Health Service allowed the use of cuff preparations as an adjuvant in the treatment of acute diarrhea, as well as other intestinal diseases, both in children and adults.

Collection and storage

The cuff blooms from June to September (it is during this period that it should be collected for the purpose of procuring medicinal raw materials). It is collected after morning dew or drops of water, which are actively secreted by the plant at night, dry.

For medical purposes, the aerial part of the cuff is prepared, which is carefully cut along with the existing basal leaves. Further, the collected raw materials are dried in a well-ventilated room or in the open air, but always under a canopy. If you need quick drying, you can use special dryers, the temperature in which should not be more than 60 degrees.

The dried raw materials are stored in boxes, glass containers or paper bags for no more than a year (with longer storage, the raw materials acquire strong bitterness). A properly dried plant has a slightly bitter and tart taste.

Cuff during pregnancy

Decoctions and infusions from the cuff are recommended to drink starting from the 14th week of pregnancy, which will help prevent the threat of abortion and will contribute to the full development of the fetus.

In addition, it is the cuff (in combination with proper nutrition, an active and healthy lifestyle) that prepares the mother’s body for easy delivery, thereby significantly reducing the risk of postpartum complications. The preparations of the plant help to cope with the beginning bleeding, since they have a pronounced hemostatic effect. Expectant mothers are advised to drink 4 cups of tea daily prepared from an ordinary cuff. Tea is drunk from the 14th week of pregnancy - and up to the tenth day after birth. For brewing tea 2 tsp. dry herbs are poured in a glass of boiling water.

Infertility Cuff

Today, infertility treatment is the prerogative of high reproductive technologies, which involve the use of ovulation inducers, as well as endoscopic surgery and many other methods that help a woman conceive a child. But at the same time, we should not forget about herbal preparations, which can act as effective allies in the treatment of certain forms of infertility (especially when you consider the indisputable fact that herbal preparations can neutralize the side effects of ovulation inducers).

The advantages of herbal preparations:

  • multifunctionality;
  • mild effects on the body;
  • aftereffect;
  • the exception of the development of a drug disease (harmful side effects of a drug);
  • lack of effect of drug withdrawal.
  In general, medicinal plants can be used as additional, basic, restorative or preventive therapy.

A cuff is a grass with progestogen activity, that is, cuff preparations stimulate the production of progesterone (it is the hormone progesterone that provides the possibility of pregnancy (gestation), and later its maintenance.

Thus, a lack of progesterone significantly reduces the possibility of conception. If conception has occurred, then an insufficient amount of this hormone can provoke an unfavorable course of pregnancy, namely a miscarriage.

In addition to the disturbed hormonal background, one of the common causes of infertility is the presence of inflammation of the organs of the female genital area, which can also be effectively eliminated by the cuff. Acceptance of plant preparations is carried out in the second (or luteal) phase of the cycle, from 15 to 25 days.

Cellulite cuff

The cuff has long been used to reduce weight, which is not surprising, given the wide range of its healing properties, which have found application in the treatment of many diseases.

So, flavanoids and tannins, which are part of the plant, help to avoid the appearance of stretch marks. Thanks to the use of cuff preparations, the skin becomes toned, supple and youthful. Flavonoids, regulating the permeability of the walls of blood vessels, increase blood circulation and improve metabolism, which positively affects the process of losing weight.

Coumarins and steroids provide the body losing weight with additional energy during fitness, while phenolcarboxylic acid, which has burning and warming properties, contributes to the rapid loss of extra pounds. Under the influence of these substances, metabolism in the subcutaneous adipose tissues is enhanced, which leads to intensive splitting of cellulite balls.

The cuff has a pronounced antioxidant property that allows you to get rid of the "orange peel".

It is also important that cuff preparations do not harm the body, do not adversely affect the work of the stomach and liver.

Cuff preparations can be taken in the form of tinctures, decoctions, as well as compresses and lotions.

Cellulite infusion
  Mix 10 g of dry ordinary cuff with 30 g of fresh, after which pour the resulting mixture with boiling water and leave for an hour. Strained infusion is taken daily in a quarter cup, before meals. To enhance the effect, it is recommended to add one spoonful of birch buds or a tablespoon of dry parsley to the mixture (the infusion with the addition of parsley or birch is prepared and taken according to the above scheme).

Cellulite Compresses
  40 g of dry cuff ordinary pour a liter of boiling water, insist for 30 minutes and strain. The remaining filtered raw material is squeezed, after which it is placed on dry gauze, which is applied to the problem areas of the skin for half an hour. As for the infusion, gauze is moistened with it, which is applied as a compress to the skin in the cellulite zone.

Important!  Before the procedure, you should take a bath, which will help steam the skin.

But just using a cuff will not lead to the coveted result - loss of excess weight. A comprehensive fight against cellulite includes maintaining a healthy lifestyle and following a special anti-cellulite diet.
