How to cook oatmeal jelly

This miracle kissel was prepared by my mother and grandmother, I remember it from childhood, and only after becoming a mother I read an article by the candidate of medical sciences Vladimir Izotov in which he confirms the healing properties of oat kissel and recommends its use for various diseases. Sometimes I use Izotov’s recipe, but most often it’s still traditional in our family. And today I want to offer it to you.

Oatmeal jelly. Recipe

  • Pour two glasses of oatmeal into an enameled pan, pour a liter of cold water, add a few crusts of rye bread for faster fermentation. Leave for a day at room temperature, covering the pan with a lid, but not tightly.
  • After a day, the contents will change the smell, the sour smell of fermentation will be felt, which means that it is time to filter, for this you can use the usual colander.
  • Wipe the remaining flakes with bread well so that only the solid contents remain, or squeeze through cheesecloth. Together with the liquid, a part of the flakes gets into the dishes, so you need to strain it again, for this I take a regular strainer with medium cells.
  • Put the liquid on the fire and boil it, stirring constantly, for two or three minutes. Be sure to stir so that the starch does not sink to the bottom of the pan, otherwise your jelly will burn and lose its taste.
  • For taste, I add a couple of spoons before the last straining, the jelly turns out to be sweeter and acquires a characteristic taste. But this, of course, is an amateur, try it.

Kissel can be eaten hot with bread or cold with hot potatoes, you can season it with honey, sugar, mashed currants, butter or vegetable oil, you need to try this to understand how you like it best.

This jelly is great for breakfast or dinner, it is very light, but perfectly nourishes the body with all the necessary substances, and also very tasty. It can be eaten as an independent dish or included in the meal as an additive.

Oatmeal jelly Izotova. Recipe

It is known that Dr. Izotov checked the properties of oat jelly on his own experience, being very sick, he was able to defeat all ailments and patented the jelly recipe back in 1992

  • In a three-liter jar, pour pre-crushed oatmeal or, much easier, oatmeal, into half the volume. It is best to add a couple of spoons of ground oatmeal to the cereal to speed up the fermentation process. Next, pour 1/2 cup of kefir into a jar and add boiled, slightly warm water.
  • The fermentation process lasts a day or two, if it is cold in the apartment, it can take up to three days, this can be understood by the characteristic bubbles and sour smell, but keep in mind that excessively fermented jelly will be sour and not so tasty.
  • After the fermentation process is over, strain the contents of the jar through a colander, rinse everything that remains in the colander with a small amount of water, stirring and squeezing all the liquid.
  • Leave the liquid part obtained after straining to settle. After a while, a rather dense thick sediment will collect at the bottom of the dishes, and we need it for starter culture.
  • The liquid is carefully poured into another dish (you can use a straw), and the solid precipitate is transferred to a glass jar and stored in the refrigerator. This is the concentrate that we will use for souring in the preparation of the next portion of jelly.
  • To cook jelly, pour 5 - 7 tablespoons of sourdough with two glasses of cold water, mix well and put on fire. Bring to a boil with constant stirring and boil for 3-5 minutes. You can cook longer if you want to get jelly more thick.

Oatmeal jelly... How many pleasant childhood memories arise at the mention of these words! Kissel is an ancient traditional dish of Slavic cuisine. It has a lot of useful properties and has long been used in the treatment of diseases.

Kissel can be a great idea for breakfast, especially if the family has kids.

They call an independent dish of gelatinous consistency, which can be based on starch or cereals in the form of flour or whole grains. The difference from the sweet berry and fruit jelly is that the jelly on flour or grains can be served on the first and second.

  1. We fill a three-liter jar with a third of instant oatmeal. Add a couple of tablespoons of washed, dried and chopped oats.
  2. Pour 100 ml of very fresh low-fat kefir and warm boiled water, the mass level should reach the shoulders of the jar.
  3. Mix everything well, close the lid, wrap it in paper and remove it for 1-2 days in a warm place for fermentation.
  4. After the specified time, the product must be filtered and removed for another 16-18 hours.

  6. To prepare oatmeal jelly, we take 3 tablespoons of yeast, which we fill with a glass of water. The mass must be cooked over low heat until thickened.
